From dialogue to action in Sahiwal ♻️

AHKF facilitated a two-day capacity-building training under the SME-led Plastic Recycling Pilo, bringing together informal workers, SMEs, and institutions to strengthen safety practices and environmental compliance on the ground.

Grateful for the technical leadership of the Sustainable Development Policy Institute and the support of the UN Environment Programme International Environmental Technology Centre, along with the engagement of the Sahiwal City Government.

At Akhter Hameed Khan Foundation, we continue to facilitate inclusive recycling systems that center safety, coordination, and dignity.

Why does “skill” rarely equal “scale” in Pakistan’s urban slums?

The barrier isn’t a lack of ambition, it’s the lack of a bridge to the formal economy.

The Enterprise Acceleration Program (EAP), funded by the British Asian Trust is that missing link. We are moving beyond the classroom to provide:

🔹 AI-driven tools to digitize sales.
🔹 Enterprise Cooperatives for collective power.
🔹 Market access to Chambers of Commerce and formal banking.

From the streets of Karachi, Sahiwal, and Rawalpindi to the halls of policy-making, we’re rewriting the blueprint for economic resilience.

What’s the biggest barrier for micro-entrepreneurs today: Lack of capital or lack of networks? Let’s discuss in the comments! 👇

An 11% rise in contraceptive use didn’t happen by chance.
In Dhok Hassu, it happened because access finally reached home.

This is what community-led, evidence-based family planning looks like when it’s sustained, trusted, and designed around women’s realities.

Proud to scale this impact with the support of Punjab Population Innovation Fund - PPIF

Data speaks to donors. Impact speaks to the community.

At AHKF, we aren’t just conducting training, we are rewriting the blueprint for Pakistan’s informal economy.

In partnership with the British Asian Trust, the Enterprise Acceleration Program (EAP) is our commitment to the "Missing Middle." These are the entrepreneurs too large for traditional aid, yet too small for formal banking.

By organizing 940 entrepreneurs into Enterprise Cooperatives, we are bridging the gap between home-based workshops and the boardrooms of the Chamber of Commerce.

The Goal:
📍Karachi | Sahiwal | Rawalpindi
🚀 Turning solo talent into collective economic power.

This is how we build a stronger, more inclusive Pakistan. 🇵🇰

Follow our journey of transformation.

Legacy in action, health at the doorstep.

In Orangi Town, our PHC-DSDP project is proving that professional healthcare delivered at home transforms community trust. Residents like Mr. Ghayyas, a long-time local advocate, are embracing this initiative, moving from routine screenings to becoming dedicated project partners.

Implemented alongside our sister organization, , we are honored to serve the community while carrying forward a shared legacy of social development. When a community takes ownership of its health, the impact becomes truly sustainable.

Pakistan’s economy isn’t short on talent, it’s short on acceleration.

Millions of “invisible” entrepreneurs power our cities, yet remain locked out of growth. Through the Enterprise Acceleration Program (EAP), AHKF, in partnership with British Asian Trust, is shifting gears by building Enterprise Cooperatives that bridge the gap between informal work and formal markets.

When the invisible accelerates, the whole country moves forward.
