From sewage and waste… to a clean, safe street 🌱✨

In Bhutto Nagar, Sahiwal, we didn’t just fix a problem, we built a bridge. By helping residents raise their voices and connecting them with local authorities, we turned frustration into action and dignity.

This is what change looks like when communities lead and partnerships make it possible. 💚

From informal work to organized cooperatives, change is underway in Sahiwal♻️✨

Under the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies-funded project, AHKF sat down with local waste pickers to:
👥 Form groups and elect their own leaders
🗺️ Map out waste collection areas
💬 Talk openly about the hurdles they face and how to overcome them

These meetings are the first step toward a community-led circular economy where waste pickers are not invisible, but empowered.

➡️Check how Sahiwal’s waste pickers are shaping their own future.

🚨Breaking News!🚨

AHKF held a one-day orientation for healthcare professionals on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) at the District Health Authority Rawalpindi.

With valuable insights from Dr. Sehzad (WHO) and Dr. Qasar, the session focused on NCD prevention & management, along with an introduction to our Primary Health Care – Doorstep Delivery Project (PHC–DSDP) in Dhok Hassu.

This initiative strengthens the capacity of healthcare workers and brings quality healthcare closer to communities.

Together, we’re working towards healthier, stronger communities.

We didn’t just map waste in Sahiwal, we mapped the stories behind it📍

Our baseline survey in Bhutto Nagar revealed:
✨ Waste pickers say cooperation from households is growing because people now see value in separating waste.
✨ Without full formal collection, households rely on personal arrangements with pickers, creating both trust and uncertainty.
✨ Residents directly link uncovered waste and blocked drains to seasonal disease outbreaks.

This is more than data, it’s the starting point for a community-led circular economy in Sahiwal💚
