YPAD (Youth Policy Advocacy Dialogue) brought youth from across Pakistan into meaningful conversations on policy and governance. Led by SoLF in collaboration with UNFPA Pakistan, the initiative created structured spaces for young people to engage directly with policymakers, understand existing frameworks, and highlight gaps that affect their lives. Through dialogues held across multiple regions, YPAD strengthened youth participation, encouraged informed advocacy, and reinforced the importance of inclusive decision-making.

The Green Urban Development Programme, led by the Institute of Urbanism and the School of Leadership Foundation with the U.S. Embassy Islamabad, is shaping a new generation of changemakers. By blending innovation, sustainability, and youth leadership, the programme has created platforms for dialogue, research, and collaboration between Pakistan and the U.S.

With support and grants, youth-led startups are already creating real solutions for water conservation, food security, and sustainable cities. These initiatives are not just ideas; they are living examples of how young innovators can drive change in their communities and beyond.

Let’s celebrate the journey, the collaborations, and the lasting impact of the programme as it sets the stage for greener and more resilient futures.

Meet Talha Ajmal, a innovator! The GUD programme led by Institute of Urbanism and SoLF with support from the U.S. Embassy Islamabad focuses on sustainable solutions for water and waste management, green infrastructure, and youth-led eco-entrepreneurship. With this support, he is advancing sustainable water use through Aqua Sense.

Aqua Sense retrofits taps with automated sensors that control flow, detect leaks, and monitor usage in real time through a mobile app. The system reduces water waste during ablution, lowers electricity costs by cutting the need for pumping, and has already shown major reductions in consumption. It has received orders from mosques in Islamabad and plans to expand into households while exploring reuse of ablution wastewater.

Meet Marfaa Naseem, a innovator! With support from the GUD programme led by Institute of Urbanism and SoLF with the U.S. Embassy Islamabad, Pakistan, she is tackling water scarcity and urban farming through her startup, TerraTech.

Terra Tech installs rainwater harvesting systems, bore recharge wells, and hydroponic gardens that grow fresh vegetables with 90% less water. Pilots in Islamabad have shown strong results, including household water savings, groundwater recharge, and fresh organic produce now reaching farmers’ markets. Terra Tech is also partnering with housing societies, schools, and commercial buildings as rainwater harvesting becomes mandatory in Islamabad.

This , we journey through the theatre performances conducted under the SHAMS programme by UNICEF Pakistan in partnership with the School of Leadership Foundation. Across 34 districts of Pakistan, 36 performances engaged almost 5,500 adolescents and 3,700 caregivers, sparking meaningful conversations around mental health, empathy, and support.

From villages to valleys, each performance brought stories to life that helped communities better understand what young people feel but often cannot say. Because sometimes, the first step to healing is simply being heard.

This Mental Health Week, we spotlight TAALI under the SHAMS programme by UNICEF Pakistan in partnership with the School of Leadership Foundation, where play became a powerful tool for emotional well-being.

Across 34 districts of Pakistan, TAALI sessions engaged 8,702 adolescents in sports and games designed to build confidence, manage emotions, and encourage peer support.

In classrooms and schoolyards, play became a safe space for reflection, connection, and growth as adolescents discovered the strength of empathy and emotional awareness through movement.

TAALI shows us that play is not just for fun. It is a way to nurture emotional resilience that lasts.

The GUD programme, led by Institute of Urbanism and SoLF with support from the U.S. Embassy focuses on sustainable solutions for water and waste management, green infrastructure, and youth-led eco-entrepreneurship. With this support, she is tackling urban food waste with her smart food management platform, Nawalah.

Nawalah connects businesses with surplus food to consumers, reducing waste while promoting environmental sustainability, economic savings, and social equity. With approximately one-third of all food produced going to waste globally, Nawalah provides a solution that transforms how surplus food is managed, redistributed, and consumed—via both an app and web portal.
