I thought leaving Pakistan would quiet the pain a little. I thought moving to the U.S. for my PhD would mean I no longer had to wake up to injustice, no more seeing starving dogs on my street, no more watching animals chased, beaten, erased as if their lives meant nothing. I thought distance would soften the memories of muhallahs where children grow up learning survival before compassion, where education is a privilege and cruelty is normalized.

But the truth is, it didn’t go away. It follows me every day. I carry the sound of dogs crying at night, the sight of people hardened by poverty and neglect, the weight of knowing how casually suffering is accepted back home for animals and for humans alike. And with that comes guilt. Deep, unbearable guilt. Because I get to live in safety now. I get to study, to breathe fresh air, to look away when it becomes too much. And they don’t.

I’ve realized that running away is not an option, at least not for me. I see myself among our people, even when they are cruel, even when they are closed off because change doesn’t come from distance, it comes from questioning what we’ve inherited and choosing to do better.

The conversations we have at home matter. The beliefs we challenge matter. Learning from our own experiences instead of blindly accepting “this is how it’s always been” matters. We cannot keep standing by while inhumane customs define us. I may be far away right now, but my heart is still there, and it hurts more than I can explain.

Our Story

Hi I'm Verdah & yaaar I love myself because I’m amazed at tremendous potential given to humans by God. Scene on hai dost !! :D :D

Being a trainer is awesome! People surprise you and make you so proud each day! :D

I’m so fascinated with the abilities that i see in myself including the abilities that usually remain unused, lying dormant. Abilities that through little effort can surface & simply shine through like the brightest star. And then I see people, all around me, everyday who are ALL extremely talented teaching me that to reach goals we ONLY require a little discipline with absolute honesty & faith.

And guess what? Exercise teaches you that! it makes you stronger with every milestone you achieve because discipline & honesty has become a habit now and a few good habits are all we need to push pass limits . So once you give healthy, active & positive & life a go, you’ll realize how shortsighted is it to use exercise as a tool for weight management only.
