Heberden's nodes are characterized as hard, bony lumps that appear on the finger joints closest to the fingertip (known as the distal interphalangeal or DIP joints).
They are a classic indicator of osteoarthritis (OA), which is caused by the deterioration of joint cartilage and the subsequent formation of new bone spurs (osteophytes).

Tech Neck – The New Age Posture Problem”

📱 We spend over 4–6 hours daily looking down at our phones.
This small habit is causing a BIG problem: Tech Neck.

🔍 What Exactly Is Tech Neck?

A posture imbalance caused by bending your head forward while using phones/laptops, leading to strain on neck muscles and cervical discs.

⚠️ Symptoms to Notice

Persistent neck & shoulder pain

Headaches

Upper back stiffness

Rounded shoulders

Numbness in arms (in severe cases)

💡 Why Is It Common Now?

Your head weighs 5–6 kg, but in forward posture it becomes 20–25 kg of stress on the neck!
Your spine is carrying weight it was never designed for.

💪 Physiotherapy Treatment

Cervical mobilizations

Chin tucks & deep neck flexor training

Scapular strengthening

Posture correction

Stretching (upper traps, SCM, pec muscles)

Ergonomic education

🧠 Quick Home Tip

⭐ Follow the 20–20–20 rule:
Every 20 minutes, lift your phone/laptop to eye level & stretch for 20 seconds.

✨ Colles Fracture

“A Colles fracture happens when you fall on your hand with the wrist bent backward. The bone moves upward (dorsal side).
🔹 Cause: Fall on outstretched hand
🔹 Look: ‘Dinner-fork’ shape
🔹 Physio: Reduce swelling, improve wrist movement, strengthen grip, and return to normal activities.”

✨ Smith Fracture

“A Smith fracture happens when you fall on a flexed wrist, making the bone move downward (volar side).
🔹 Cause: Fall on the back of the hand
🔹 Look: Reverse Colles
🔹 Physio: Reduce swelling, restore wrist extension, strengthen wrist muscles, and improve daily function.”

👶 ARTHROGRYPOSIS MULTIPLEX CONGENITA (AMC)

What is it?
A rare congenital condition where a child is born with multiple stiff joints (contractures) due to limited movement inside the womb. It affects muscles, tendons, and joints — making them tight and less flexible.

Causes:
🔹 Reduced fetal movement during pregnancy
🔹 Neuromuscular or connective tissue disorders
🔹 Genetic mutations
🔹 Uterine restriction (less space for baby movement)

Common Features:
✅ Joint stiffness (arms, legs, feet)
✅ Muscle weakness or wasting
✅ Clubfoot or hip dislocation
✅ Normal intelligence in most cases

Physiotherapy Role:
💪 Gentle stretching & joint mobilization
💪 Splinting or serial casting
💪 Strengthening weak muscles
💪 Positioning & functional training
💪 Parent education & home exercises

Goal:
To improve joint mobility, strength, and independence — helping children move, play, and grow with confidence 💙

🖐️ De Quervain’s Syndrome

Also called: “Mommy’s Thumb” or “Gamer’s Thumb”

💥 What it is:
Inflammation of the tendons around the base of the thumb — causing pain on the wrist’s thumb side.

⚠️ Common Causes:

Repetitive wrist or thumb movements

Lifting babies (new mothers)

Texting or gaming excessively

Typing or gripping objects tightly

🔎 Symptoms:

Pain on the thumb side of the wrist

Swelling near the base of the thumb

Difficulty in gripping or twisting objects

Pain increases when moving the thumb

💪 Physiotherapy Treatment:

Rest and activity modification

Thumb spica splint

Cold therapy for inflammation

Soft tissue release

Range of motion and strengthening exercises

🏥 At PrimeCare Physiotherapy Jhang, we help you recover wrist function safely and effectively!

💪 Causes of Rotator Cuff Pain

Rotator cuff pain is one of the most common causes of shoulder discomfort and weakness. It can result from several underlying conditions, including:

🔹1. Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
Inflammation or irritation of the shoulder tendons caused by overuse, poor posture, or repetitive overhead movements.
➡️ Symptoms: Pain during activity, mild weakness, and stiffness.

🔹2. Rotator Cuff Tear
A partial or complete tear in one or more of the rotator cuff tendons, usually due to injury, degeneration, or heavy lifting.
➡️ Symptoms: Sharp pain, weakness, difficulty lifting the arm.

🔹3. Shoulder Impingement Syndrome
Occurs when shoulder tendons are pinched between bones during movement.
➡️ Symptoms: Pain when reaching overhead, reduced mobility.

🔹4. Calcific Tendinitis
Calcium deposits form within the tendons, causing inflammation and intense pain.
➡️ Symptoms: Sudden severe pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion.

🩺 Physiotherapy Treatment:
• Pain relief (ultrasound, TENS)
• Range of motion & stretching exercises
• Rotator cuff and scapular strengthening
• Posture correction
• Gradual return to normal function

🦴 Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS): When the Spine Says “I’m Stiff!”

Ankylosing Spondylitis is a chronic inflammatory arthritis that mainly affects the spine and sacroiliac joints, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced flexibility. Over time, it can lead to fusion of the spine.

🔍 Common Symptoms:

Morning stiffness (lasting more than 30 minutes)

Back pain improving with activity, not rest

Fatigue and loss of flexibility

Pain in hips, shoulders, or heels

🧠 Causes & Risk Factors:

Genetic predisposition (HLA-B27 positive)

More common in males

Usually starts in young adults

💪 Physiotherapy Goals:

Maintain spinal mobility and posture

Reduce stiffness and pain

Improve chest expansion and breathing

Prevent deformities and fusion

🧘‍♀️ Physiotherapy Treatment Includes:

✅ Postural correction exercises
✅ Back extension and stretching exercises
✅ Breathing and chest expansion exercises
✅ Hydrotherapy
✅ Regular aerobic and strengthening exercises

🔔 Remember: Staying active is the key! The more you move, the better your spine will feel.

26/10/2025

Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis) progresses through three main stages — Freezing, Frozen, and Thawing — each with distinct symptoms and duration. Here’s a detailed breakdown:

🩺 1. Freezing Stage (Painful Stage)

Duration: 6 weeks to 9 months

Features:

Gradual onset of shoulder pain (especially at night or with movement).

Pain increases steadily and may radiate to the upper arm.

Shoulder stiffness begins to develop.

Range of motion (ROM) starts decreasing — particularly external rotation.

Pathophysiology:
Inflammation of the joint capsule and synovium leads to pain and restriction.

❄️ 2. Frozen Stage (Adhesive Stage or Stiff Stage)

Duration: 4 to 6 months

Features:

Pain may decrease somewhat, but stiffness becomes more pronounced.

Severe restriction in both active and passive movement.

Daily activities like combing hair or reaching overhead become very difficult.

Pathophysiology:
Capsular fibrosis and adhesions limit joint capsule mobility.

🌅 3. Thawing Stage (Recovery Stage)

Duration: 6 months to 2 years

Features:

Gradual return of movement and decreased pain.

Function slowly improves.

Full recovery may take up to 2 years.

Pathophysiology:
Capsular remodeling and gradual resolution of adhesions.

✨ Early physiotherapy can prevent permanent nerve damage!
