Kumak-The Journey to Wellness had the privilege of contributing to a meaningful community health camp in Nasir Colony Korangi Karachi. Our focus was clear to make mental health support accessible and to remind families that wellbeing includes both mind and body. We spent the day listening, guiding, and helping individuals understand that taking care of their mental health is an important part of a healthy life.

Alongside our mental health efforts, this camp delivered life changing services. More than two hundred children received polio vaccinations, protecting them from a preventable threat. Families received dental checkups and hygiene guidance, ensuring brighter smiles and healthier futures. Wellness resources were placed directly into the hands of the community.

This effort was a collective triumph, and we deeply appreciate the support of the Rotary Club of Karachi Pearl, Rotary Pakistan 3271, ILMA University, Apparel Zone, Platinum Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, Urdu Academy Sindh Official, Honest Food, Bites and Braces Dental, Oral Health Committee, and a team of dedicated volunteers who showed what true service looks like.

Dr. Naima Fatima Shariff, CEO & Co-founder of Kumak-The Journey to Wellness, conducted an insightful session at NUML University during their Mental Health Awareness Week. She spoke about the vast scope and significance of psychology, while also highlighting the diverse career opportunities for aspiring psychologists.

It was an insightful and inspiring experience for both students and faculty, shedding light on the many possibilities within the field of psychology.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, it is of utmost importance to reeducate people on the roles they play in contributing to mental health issues. It is very easy to counsel a mother after her son commits su***de, but why not take a few preventive measures earlier to stop a young boy, who has his entire life ahead of him, from taking such a drastic step?

Sadly, what we often fail to understand is that we have the power to make or break someone. A woman is struggling somewhere with depression only because she is called "fat" by some of us. A child refuses to go to school because he is bullied for looking different or for not being as smart, rich, or "cool" as others. A young man lacks motivation only because society has made him believe he is a failure, and somewhere, an ailing father lies all alone in an old home because he has been abandoned by his children. What future do these people have? Do you think you have a role to play in all of this?

What’s sad about mental health issues is that they aren’t always obvious, and we choose to live in our own bubble of denial, thinking that we have no part to play. Unfortunately, we can contribute to the depression of others; we can make the young boy take his life in many cases. Therefore, I humbly request that all of you realize the importance of your role. Your small compliment can brighten someone’s day, and your harsh words and actions can ruin a life.

Choose your actions and words wisely! Choose to lift others instead of bringing them down.

🔴 Disney Pixar's Turning Red 🔴

We absolutely love a good family drama, but this movie went deep and under the family dynamics that present with a traditional exterior. Turning Red singlehandedly explored child and adolescents mental health through the lens of generational trauma and offered a wonderful perspective on breaking generational cycles, addressing shame and guilt and accepting ourselves, just the way we are ❤

At the root of it, a healthy happy family and a strong bond is what matters and the movie portrayed this message beautifully!

We recommend this movie for parents and caregivers to watch with all the little ones in their families for a wonderful experience that brings you closer together ✨
