During the Cherry Blossom Festival in Gulmit, Hunza, a dedicated mental health screening stall was set up alongside essential health services, including blood pressure, height and weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol checks.

Over three days, more than 40 individuals were screened for mental health concerns—many for the very first time.

This initiative is part of AKHSP’s AKDN Integrated Mental Health Programme, ensuring timely, accessible, and confidential support for communities across the region.

Because health is not just physical—it’s mental too.

A productive discussion was held with Mr. Khursheed Khan, Commissioner Diamer-Astore Division, at the AKHS,P Project Office in Gilgit, with participation from Dr. Sifat Wali, Regional Head AKHS,P Gilgit-Baltistan, and team members.

The meeting focused on the need to screen and diagnose children with special needs in Chilas. A proposal was shared to deploy a multidisciplinary health team—including a psychiatrist, psychologist, pediatrician, and nutritionist—to support comprehensive assessment and care planning.

This initiative reflects a shared commitment to support government efforts in ensuring timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and better health outcomes for vulnerable children.

AKHS,P continues to contribute through initiatives such as the Strengthening Nutrition and Immunization in Pakistan (SNIP) project, reaching mothers and children across Gilgit, Astore, and Diamer.
