The first cabinet meeting of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) JPMC Unit was held successfully with active participation of cabinet members and senior leadership.
The meeting was formally initiated by Dr. Shahid Awan, President, Young Doctors Association JPMC, and commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Vice President YDA, Dr. Munawar Mazari.
On the invitation of the Young Doctors Association JPMC, distinguished guests including Patron-in-Chief YDA Pakistan, Dr. Umar Sultan, and Chairman YDA Sindh, Surgeon Dr. Farukh Rauf, attended the meeting.
The official announcement of the YDA JPMC Unit cabinet was made, and responsibilities were assigned to cabinet members for upcoming programs and organizational activities.
A detailed discussion was held on the key challenges faced by doctors at JPMC, along with practical ways to resolve these issues and facilitate young doctors. The discussion reflected the core objective of the meeting: to identify doctors’ problems, develop a practical roadmap for their resolution, and strengthen the role of YDA JPMC in safeguarding the rights, welfare, and professional facilitation of young doctors.
Strong emphasis was placed on the early resolution of salary-related issues of young doctors, with a clear commitment to pursue the matter on priority.
The office bearers of newly formed societies within the organization were announced to strengthen academic, professional, and welfare activities.
Cabinet members from various wards of JPMC participated in the meeting, ensuring wide representation and unity.
The meeting concluded with a unified resolve to work collectively for the welfare of doctors and the improvement of healthcare services at JPMC.

YDA JPMC Demands Due Process and Immediate Recovery of Dr. Shehbaz

KARACHI — The Young Doctors Association (YDA), Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), expresses grave concern regarding the sudden disappearance and alleged abduction of our respected colleague, Dr. Shehbaz.
The medical fraternity is deeply disturbed by this incident. As an association dedicated to the welfare of doctors and the upholding of civil rights, the YDA JPMC has taken a clear and unified stance on this issue: The rule of law must prevail.
We assert that no individual should be subjected to enforced disappearance or extrajudicial detention.
• Our Demand for Due Process: If Dr. Shehbaz is named in any First Information Report (FIR) or is alleged to be involved in any unlawful activity, the law requires that he be formally charged and presented before a court of competent jurisdiction.
• Constitutional Rights: Every citizen has the right to a fair trial and legal representation. Keeping a doctor in an unknown location without legal recourse is a violation of fundamental human rights and the constitution of Pakistan.
The YDA JPMC urges the relevant authorities to immediately disclose the whereabouts of Dr. Shehbaz. If he is in custody, he must be produced in court immediately. If he has been abducted by non-state actors, immediate measures must be taken for his safe recovery.
We stand firmly with Dr. Shehbaz and his family during this distressing time and demand immediate clarity on his status.

YDA Leadership Meets with Executive Director JPMC to Resolve Stipend Delays

Representatives from the Young Doctors Association (YDA) held a high-level meeting today with the newly appointed Executive Director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Dr. Khalid Sher, to address the ongoing delays in the disbursement of doctor stipends.

The delegation included prominent leaders:
• Dr. Omar Sultan (Patron, YDA Pakistan)
• Dr. Farukh Rauf (Chairman, YDA Sindh)
• Dr. Shahid Awan (President, YDA JPMC)
• Dr. Aurangzeb (General Secretary, YDA JPMC)
• Dr. Manwar (Vice President, YDA JPMC)

During the session, the Executive Director was briefed on the financial hardships faced by young doctors due to the current backlog. Dr. Khalid Sher provided a firm assurance that he is prioritizing the matter and will ensure that all outstanding stipends are released by the end of the month.

Key Outcomes of the Meeting:
• Commitment to Timely Pay: The Executive Director pledged to streamline the process to prevent future delays.
• Transition Period: Having recently assumed his role, Dr. Sher requested a brief period to fully settle in and navigate the administrative complexities of the institution.
• Mutual Cooperation: The ED called for a spirit of collaboration between the administration and the medical staff to improve the hospital’s operational efficiency.

“The Young Doctors Association (YDA) JPMC Unit visited the Neurosurgery Department at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and met with the newly appointed Head of Department, Professor Dr. Lal Rehman. During the visit, the association congratulated him on assuming the leadership of the department and discussed matters related to patient care, resident training, and departmental development. The YDA extended its best wishes and expressed confidence that under his guidance, the Neurosurgery Department will continue to progress and excel.”

The Admin Committee of Young Doctors Association (YDA) JPMC Unit met the Administration and Accounts Department regarding the delay in salaries. The Accounts Department informed that all formalities are complete, and upon restoration of DDO powers, two months’ salaries will be released within one week.
YDA strongly urges the concerned authorities to resolve the DDO power issue immediately. House Officers whose bank accounts are still not active are advised to open them at the earliest to avoid further delay.
YDA JPMC Unit will continue its struggle for the rights of its members.
