I recently came across a video by Dr. Muhammad Affan Qaiser, who is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist, promoting an abrasive powder for oral use that is being sold under various names in the market. This product is harmful to teeth and gums.
This product is not approved by any recognized body or regulatory authority in the country. Moreover, the ingredients mentioned are either incomplete or misleading. Baking soda is listed as one of the components, which acts as an abrasive agent. While it may give temporary whitening initially, continuous use can lead to enamel erosion, gum damage, increased sensitivity, and long term irreversible harm to teeth.
Dr. Affan Qaiser belongs to a different medical specialty and has no professional link with dentistry. He should stick to his own field rather than misleading the public and luring them toward harmful oral practices. Promoting dental products without proper dental knowledge and evidence based research can seriously compromise oral health.

My message to the public is simple and sincere: please do not use such products. Teeth and gums are delicate structures and require professional care. Always seek advice from a qualified dentist for anything related to oral health instead of relying on non dental recommendations or social media promotions.

When a tooth is lost and not replaced, the neighboring teeth slowly begin to shift into the empty space. This silent movement disturbs the natural bite alignment, leading to uneven chewing forces, jaw discomfort, and even TMJ (jaw joint) strain over time.

Meanwhile, the bone that once supported the missing tooth starts to shrink—a process called bone resorption. Without stimulation from the tooth root, the jawbone gradually thins out, altering facial shape and making future replacement (like dental implants) more complicated and costly.

In many cases, unbalanced biting and food impaction around tilted teeth can accelerate gum disease and decay in surrounding areas. What begins as “just one missing tooth” can eventually create a chain reaction affecting the entire mouth’s health and aesthetics.

Replacing a missing tooth promptly—through options like implants, bridges, or dentures—restores both function and stability, keeping the bite balanced, the bone strong, and the smile youthful. Dentistry isn’t just about filling gaps—it’s about preserving harmony in the oral system.

Many parents let their baby fall asleep with a milk bottle in the mouth — thinking it’s harmless or comforting. But what begins as a sweet bedtime habit often ends with severe tooth decay called Baby Bottle Caries or Nursing Bottle Caries.

When milk or juice stays pooled around a child’s teeth during sleep, bacteria in the mouth feed on the sugars. This produces acid that slowly erodes the enamel — especially on the upper front teeth, which are most exposed. Over time, these teeth turn brown, crumble, and may decay down to the roots, often before the child even turns two.

Pediatric dentists now call this a silent epidemic. Studies show that early childhood caries can affect a child’s nutrition, speech, and confidence — and even increase the risk of dental problems later in life. The decay is often rapid and painful, requiring extractions or crowns under general anesthesia.

The solution is simple yet powerful: Never put a baby to bed with a bottle containing milk, juice, or sweet liquids. Offer only plain water after brushing at night. Clean your baby’s teeth and gums daily, and schedule their first dental visit by age one. Early prevention saves not just teeth — it preserves smiles, confidence, and health.
