It is deeply regrettable and a matter of shame that certain elements within our own country attempted to create a negative perception against Pakistan’s largest and most prestigious medical institution, the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. By taking support from an international journal, issues were highlighted which were later declared incorrect by the concerned third party. The material used as a basis was taken out of context and presented in a manner suggesting that it was directly related to this institution—whereas the original source did not even mention the College by name.
This institution is not merely a building or an administrative structure; it represents the most organized, integrated, and standardized system of specialized medical training in Pakistan. Its decades-long training model, examination system, and professional oversight grant it a distinctive status. Differences of opinion exist in every society—and should exist—but harming national institutions on the basis of personal grievances or misunderstandings is not wise.
As a nation and as physicians, it is our responsibility to keep criticism constructive, to raise our voices for improvement, yet to refrain from conduct that damages the institution’s credibility. The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan is a national asset. Preserving its dignity is, in fact, safeguarding the honor of our profession, our Fellows, and the trust of our patients.
When institutions remain strong, individuals naturally remain strong; but if we weaken our own pillars, the loss will be everyone’s.
