Sindh Integrated Emergency & Health Services (SIEHS), under the Health Department, Government of Sindh, has unveiled the prototype of Sindh’s first Riverine Boat Ambulance at the Pakistan International Maritime Exhibition and Conference (PIMEC) 2025, held at the Karachi Expo Centre from November 3 to 6.

The innovative project aims to bring life-saving emergency care to communities living along Sindh’s coastal and riverine belts — areas often cut off from traditional road networks. Equipped with advanced medical systems, wireless communication tools, sonar technology, and life-saving equipment, the boat ambulance is designed to operate in shallow and flood-prone waters.

Four boats have already been deployed on a trial basis, with plans to expand the fleet to 26 across Sindh’s coastal regions. SIEHS CEO Brig. (R) Tarique Quadir Lakhiar described the initiative as a “vital step to ensure no community is left behind in emergency healthcare access.”

PIMEC 2025, organized by the Pakistan Navy and Badar Expo Solutions, drew participation from over 100 countries, showcasing innovations in maritime, defense, and the blue economy. The Riverine Ambulance project attracted strong interest, reflecting Pakistan’s growing focus on disaster-resilient healthcare infrastructure.

Once fully operational, the service is expected to play a crucial role during floods and natural disasters, ensuring access to emergency healthcare in areas that are otherwise inaccessible.

Speaking at the event, Brig. (R) Tarique Quadir Lakhiar, CEO of SIEHS, said that the Riverine Ambulance initiative represents “a vital step towards ensuring that no community is left behind when it comes to emergency care.” PIMEC 2025, organized by the Pakistan Navy and Badar Expo Solutions with the support of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, is recognized as Pakistan’s flagship maritime event.
