Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) is a common skin condition that occurs after the skin has experienced some form of "trauma" or inflammation.

What is it?

When your skin is injured (by acne, a burn, or a scratch), it produces extra "melanin" , the pigment that gives skin its color as it heals. This results in flat, darkened spots ranging from pink and red to brown or black.

Common Causes

Acne: The most frequent cause, spots left behind after a pimple heals.

Skin Injuries: Cuts, scrapes, or minor burns.

Inflammation: Eczema, psoriasis, or harsh chemical treatments.

Picking: Squeezing or popping pimples makes PIH much more likely.
