Hi all,
My name is Aisha and I am currently pursuing my degrees in counseling psychology program internationally.
And after getting into a lot of different programs worldwide and domestically. I have decided to spread all of my resources to you via this platform. Including relationships, childhood issues, adult life issues, disabilities, counselling and therapy topics. Please let me know if any of you need any resources or assistance with the process.
So starting with the article! I will be posting articles and book reviews, so you can only read the gest and get the maximum out of it.
The History of Treatment Toward Persons With Disabilities by Irmo Marini
After reading this article, I have found that I already knew about a lot of historical events from early civilization and the Middle Ages and how brutally people with disability were treated, this made me recall the German and n**i experiments during the world wars.
I agree with Charles Darwin and the rest of their colleagues' stance about survival of the fittest and natural selection. however I personally believe that these should apply to every other species except humans, and I am also against the idea of aborting when finding out about the disability, we should not have the right to do this with humans. However, we can't control the animal behavior in their habitat so it's acceptable regarding other species but not humans.
From this article, I have learned about several sociological research after which I have shocking reactions. For example, Coco (2010) described San Francisco as having passed what came to be known as the “ugly act” in 1867 to remove unsightly beggars, most of whom had disabilities, off the streets. Coco (2010) further noted that when persons with disabilities were picked up off the street, they were sent to the Cook County poorhouse in Chicago, which had deplorable living conditions. Another one was the research and laws passed about sterilization. however, I won't take any stance on this topic.
All in all, the article was knowledgeable and made me think deeply about several aspects which I never would have done. One last thing just came to my mind. Nowadays I have seen people with disabled children and parents taking advantage of their children by getting concessions, benefits, and facilities from the government for themself, which is ethically not right.
