A single live intrauterine fetus corresponding to 16 weeks of gestation is visualized.
There is absence of the cranial vault (calvarium) with absence of normal intracranial brain parenchyma. Disorganized echogenic neural tissue is seen lying outside the cranial cavity and exposed to the amniotic fluid, giving a characteristic appearance consistent with acrania, anencephaly/exencephaly sequence.
The spine shows features of open spinal dysraphism (spina bifida), with splaying of the posterior elements.
There is increased amniotic fluid volume (polyhydramnios) noted.
No normal cranial structures are identified
