It is estimated that 1 in 4 of us will have a stroke in our lifetime. Today, stroke is the leading cause of disability worldwide and the second leading cause of death. As part of World Stroke Day, taking place today, the World Stroke Campaign works to raise awareness of stroke prevention, treatment and support. The potential of cord blood stem cells in the treatment of stroke is showing great promise. Over 100 clinical trials are currently underway investigating the application of cord blood stem cells to treat stroke, which have shown to recover motor function and speech ability.
