The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that Caesarean section (C-section) rates at the population level should ideally remain between 10–15% to achieve optimal maternal and neonatal outcomes. Importantly, this recommendation is intended as a public health guideline for countries, not as a rigid limit for individual patients.

In Pakistan, rising C-section rates have become a significant public health concern. National data from the 2017–2018 Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey reported a C-section rate of approximately 22%, well above WHO recommendations. Rates are often even higher in urban areas and private healthcare settings, highlighting the need for better regulation, patient education, and evidence-based obstetric decision-making.

A talk of Dr. Shershah against rising C Sec rate in the country at Arts Council of Pakistan on 10th Jan 2026.

PCOS & Pregnancy: What You Need to Know 🌸

Having Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) does not mean you can’t get pregnant. Many women with PCOS conceive naturally or with simple medical support.

🔹 How PCOS affects pregnancy
• Irregular ovulation may delay conception
• Hormonal imbalance can make cycles unpredictable

🔹 The good news
✔️ With proper treatment, ovulation can be regulated
✔️ Lifestyle changes (healthy diet, weight control, exercise) improve fertility
✔️ Many women with PCOS have successful, healthy pregnancies

🔹 During pregnancy
Women with PCOS may have a slightly higher risk of:
• Gestational diabetes
• High blood pressure
• Early pregnancy loss

👉 Early booking, regular antenatal care, and good sugar control greatly reduce these risks.

💡 Key message: PCOS is manageable, and pregnancy is very much possible with the right care and guidance.

📌 If you are planning pregnancy or struggling to conceive, consult gynecologist early.

PCOS: It’s Not Just a Young Woman’s Problem 🌸

Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) can affect women at any stage of life — from teenage years to perimenopause.

🔹 In young women, PCOS may present as:
• Irregular or missed periods
• Acne and excessive hair growth
• Weight gain
• Difficulty conceiving later in life

🔹 In older women, PCOS does not disappear. It may show as:
• Persistent hormonal imbalance
• Irregular or heavy bleeding
• Increased risk of diabetes, high blood pressure & heart disease
• Difficulty losing weight
• Ongoing fertility concerns

👉 PCOS is a lifelong hormonal condition, but with early diagnosis, lifestyle changes, and proper medical care, women can lead healthy, fulfilling lives at every age.

💡 Remember: PCOS is manageable. Awareness, regular follow-ups, healthy diet, exercise, and stress control make a big difference.

📌 If you have symptoms at any age, don’t ignore them — consult your gynecologist.
