𦴠Understanding the Stages of Disc Herniation & Pain Progression
Disc herniation doesnβt happen overnight β it develops in stages as the spinal disc weakens and begins to press on nearby nerves. Each stage brings different symptoms that can guide diagnosis and treatment.
πΉ Disc Degeneration β In this earliest stage, the disc begins to lose water content and flexibility. You may feel back pain only, often mistaken for muscle strain.
πΉ Prolapse β The disc starts to bulge outward but the inner core remains contained. This often leads to back pain with radiating leg pain, a warning sign of nerve irritation.
πΉ Extrusion β The inner gel-like core breaks through the disc wall, pressing on the spinal nerves. At this stage, you may experience back pain, leg pain, and neurological symptoms like tingling, numbness, or weakness.
πΉ Sequestration β Fragments of the disc material break away and compress nerves severely. This usually causes intense leg pain, severe neurological symptoms, and sometimes loss of function if not treated.
β¨ Why it matters: Early intervention through posture correction, physiotherapy, lifestyle modifications, and medical care can slow or even stop progression. Severe cases may require advanced treatments or surgery.
π Take your back pain seriously β it might be more than just a strain. Protect your spine today for a healthier tomorrow! πͺ
