In light of the recent pre-monsoon rains in Pakistan, here’s a sneak peek into our mobile emergency aid health camps for the flood-affected populations in Sindh and Balochistan.

After the 2022 floods, PHC Global aimed to improve access to health services, with a focus on immunization, for women and children affected by the 2022 floods through community outreach, health camps, mobile outpatient departments (OPDs), mental health screening, tele-referrals, awareness sessions, and stakeholder engagement.

Through this Gavi-funded project “Emergency Health Services Relief to Flood Affectees in Balochistan and Sindh,” we had successfully set up 360 health camps in 6 districts: Lasbela, Jacobabad, Naseerabad, Khairpur, Jaffarabad, and Noshero Feroz with the support of the Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination and the Federal Directorate of Immunization.

Across six districts of Sindh, our field teams are hard at work to gather data that rarely gets captured but is essential to understand how communities experience health.

This evaluation is looking closely at differences between areas with and without Lady Health Worker (LHW) coverage - asking practical, grounded questions:
→ Are children getting vaccinated on time?
→ Do women have access to antenatal care and family planning?
→ What happens when someone falls ill?
→ And what does care look like when no LHW is present?

This complex work means asking about personal health matters inside people’s homes, often in 45° heat. But our teams—most working within their own communities—are doing it with clarity, care, and respect.

With support from UNICEF Pakistan and in close coordination with RMNCH Sindh, this data will directly inform how we improve community health delivery across the province.

We are pleased to share that PHC Global, with support from UNICEF Pakistan and in collaboration with the RMNCH Program, Government of Sindh, has initiated a first-of-its-kind evaluation in Pakistan: a comprehensive comparison of maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH) indicators in Lady Health Worker (LHW) covered and uncovered areas.

The evaluation is being conducted across six districts in Sindh—Malir, Sujawal, Dadu, Tando Allahyar, Ghotki, and Larkana—and seeks to generate evidence on the reach, effectiveness, and equity of the LHW program in improving MNCH outcomes.

Why Sindh? Despite the LHW program’s national scale, Sindh continues to report substantial service coverage gaps, especially in rural and peri-urban areas. This evaluation will help identify where the program is succeeding, where gaps persist, and how resources can be better aligned with population needs.

The findings will directly inform provincial planning, strengthen program governance, and contribute to evidence-based implementation of the Lady Health Workers’ Strategic Plan (2022–2028).

PHC Global and IRMNCH held a meeting to discuss and finalize the deployment plan for the Community Health Inspector (CHI) Project. The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including Lady Health Supervisors (LHS), School Health and Nutrition Supervisors (SHNS), and district implementation teams from both PHC Global and IRMNCH.

The primary objective was to develop a comprehensive, context-specific deployment strategy to ensure 100% coverage across all Union Councils (UCs). Emphasis was placed on employing both bottom-up and top-down approaches to address operational realities, resource constraints, and on-ground challenges faced by field teams.

Discussions focused on mapping available human resources, optimizing field supervision structures, coordinating interdepartmental support, and establishing clear timelines for phased rollout. Special attention was given to ensuring equity in deployment across remote and underserved areas and aligning efforts with district health priorities to promote sustainability and ownership.
