Academic Activity – 10-04-2026
Today was the turn of the House Officers. Rajab Ali Baloch House Officer, was instructed to perform the General Physical Examination (GPE). He conducted the examination thoroughly and noted findings including a puffy face with baggy eyelids, dry skin, lateral sparing of the eyebrows, and pallor.
Based on these findings, he formulated differential diagnoses, including hypothyroidism, anemia, nephrotic syndrome, and chronic liver disease (DCLD).
He confidently faced the viva voce, which was conducted by Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine, and Dr. Danish Abro , Senior PGR.
At the end of the session, feedback was obtained from PGRs and House Officers for further improvement.

Today’s session was dedicated to a theory class. Dr. Pir Syed Farooq Shah presented multiple-choice questions (MCQs) related to the Respiratory system. He explained each question and its answer in detail, enhancing the understanding of key concepts.
The session was highly interactive, with active participation from all postgraduate residents and house officers, who contributed to the discussion and shared their perspectives.
The session was supervised by Prof. Dr. Kirpal Das Makheja, Head of the Department of Medicine, and Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine. Both supervisors actively participated in the discussion and shared insightful ideas, further enriching the learning experience.

Today was the turn of the long case. Dr. Pir Farooq Shah was assigned to perform the long case as per CPSP protocol. He took a detailed history and performed a thorough clinical examination. Based on his findings, he concluded the case as right lung community-acquired pneumonia.
He presented the case confidently and systematically. The viva voce was conducted by Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine.
At the end of the session, feedback was obtained from the PGRs and House Officers. They highlighted certain deficiencies in history taking and clinical examination, and constructive suggestions were given for improvement in future clinical practice.

Today was the turn of a short case presentation. Dr. Karamat Ali Rind (PGR) was instructed to perform the general physical examination of a female patient admitted with a history of chronic, on-and-off diarrhoea since childhood.
During examination, he noted short stature, anemia, a puffy face, dry and scaly skin, and bowing of the legs. Based on these clinical findings, he formulated differential diagnoses including celiac disease leading to malabsorption, autoimmune polyglandular syndrome, and metabolic bone disease.
He effectively defended his differential diagnoses during the viva voce, which was conducted by Prof. Dr. Kirpal Das Makheja (Head of the Department of Medicine), Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto (Associate Professor of Medicine), and Dr Abdul Raheem Tunio (Senior Registrar, Medicine).
The session was interactive and informative.

Academic Activity – 06-04-2026
Today’s session was dedicated to a case presentation. Dr. Musawer Ali Bhatti, PGR, presented an interesting case of a young female patient with a past history of tuberculosis (TB) treatment. She was admitted with upper motor neuron (UMN) weakness of the lower limbs and a gibbus deformity at the 11th–12th thoracic vertebrae. Her sensory level was noted at L3–L4.
Based on the clinical findings, a provisional diagnosis of Pott’s disease was made, which was later confirmed by MRI of the spine.
The session was attended by Prof. Dr. Kirpal Das Makheja, Head of the Department of Medicine, and Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine. Both shared their insightful clinical experience and valuable input regarding the case.
All house officers and postgraduate residents (PGRs) actively participated in the discussion, making the session highly interactive and educational.

Academic Activity Report – 03-04-2026
Today’s session was conducted by the House Officers. Dr. Soorat Ali Dahani , a newly inducted House Officer, was assigned to perform a General Physical Examination. He carried out the examination confidently and systematically, demonstrating good clinical skills.
During the examination, he identified pallor along with a yellowish tinge of the sclera. Based on these findings, he made a provisional diagnosis of anemia.
He also performed well during the viva voce session, effectively answering questions, particularly regarding the clinical approach to anemia.
Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine, supervised the session. He reviewed and corrected the General Physical Examination technique, providing valuable guidance and constructive feedback.
At the end of the session, feedback was obtained from all participants to help improve future academic activities.

Today’s Academic Activity – 12-03-2026
Today, a combined academic session was conducted for Final Year MBBS students, House Officers, and postgraduate residents.
Firstly, the history of a patient with Decompensated Chronic Liver Disease (DCLD) presenting with per-re**al (P/R) bleeding secondary to re**al varices was presented by a Final Year MBBS student. The history was generally satisfactory; however, a few important clinical points were further discussed and incorporated to enhance the students’ understanding of the case.
Secondly, the cardiovascular examination, particularly the examination of the precordium, was performed by different Final Year MBBS students. Their examination techniques and clinical findings were reviewed, discussed, and rectified by Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine, Khairpur Medical College, Khairpur Mir’s.
The session proved to be interactive and educational for the students and trainees.

Today’s Academic Activity 06-03-2026
Today it was the turn of the House Officers. Dr Asifa, House Officer, was instructed to examine the abdomen of a patient. She performed the abdominal examination covering all the required components. She pointed out the findings and reported that a mass was visible in the right hypochondriac (RHC) and epigastric region. On palpation, the mass was tender and firm to hard in consistency.
She presented her differential diagnoses, which included Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), Liver Abscess, and Carcinoma of the Pancreas. She confidently defended the viva voce, which was conducted by Dr Ali Ahmed , Senior PGR.
The session was attended by Dr Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine, who also provided insightful guidance to the participants. In the end, feedback was obtained from all participants for future improvement.

Today, the synopsis of Dr Musawer Ali was again reviewed and corrected accordingly. Prof. Dr Kirpal Das Makheja, Head of the Department of Medicine, appreciated Dr Musawer for his great effort.
Secondly, a joint class of Final Year MBBS students, House Officers, and postgraduate residents was held, in which the final year students presented a case of pneumonia.
In the end, Dr Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine, Khairpur Medical College Khairpur Mir’s, demonstrated the correct method of chest examination.

He examined the chest thoroughly and presented the case confidently during the viva voce, which was conducted by Dr. Hasnain Azhar Shah , Senior PGR.
The session was supervised by Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine, who also shared insightful guidance and valuable comments. In the end, feedback was obtained from the PGRs and House Officers for future improvement.

Today’s Academic Activity – 26-02-2026
Today was a combined class of Final Year MBBS students, House Officers, and Postgraduate Residents.
First, the Final Year MBBS students presented the history of a patient admitted with bronchial asthma. The history was thoroughly discussed and corrected logically, with emphasis on all essential components, including presenting complaints, history of present illness, past history, personal history, and treatment history. Important points regarding the structured approach to history-taking were highlighted.
Secondly, an abdominal examination was performed on a male patient admitted to Medical Unit-II with hepatosplenomegaly and prominent superficial veins. Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine, and Dr Farooq Shah demonstrated the correct method of abdominal examination, explaining each step systematically, including inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation.
The Final Year MBBS students were also given the opportunity to perform the examination methods in front of everyone to improve their clinical skills and confidence. The session was interactive and educational for all participants.
