Happy National Doctors’ Day! ☺️

As I complete about 6 years practicing and enhancing my skills in not only Physical Therapy but different fields of medical, I reflected on my experience of working with experienced specialists and consultants and I questioned myself that what do patients really mean when they say to any one of us, ‘you are a good doctor’.
What qualifies as ‘good’ in the eyes of our patients? Is it the skillset? Is it the number of years of experience? Is it the knowledgebase? Is it the number of research papers published? Is it the brand value of the college we attend? Or is it the art of empathy?

Objectivity, extensive experience, a solid educational background, and technical competence are foundational, but empathy is what sets a doctor apart. Patients, being humans, have inherent needs – the need to be understood, the need to be listened to, the need to be reassured and the need to be valued.

Is empathy innate or can be learned? I want to know what do you think about it...!!
