“The potential to greatness lives within each one of us” Wilma Rudolph
“When we do all the right things we can, only thing left to do is to see the rewards come back to us, it might take some time but it always works out at the end”
Disruption in the completeness of anything tends to alter it. No matter how minute it is, the quality and integrity of it are compromised. It is no longer 100% whole. The difference between 99% and 100% is everything. It is a huge difference. This is the difference between ordinary and extra ordinary.
The elite-ness of your product lies in that 1%. It makes you “The one” and not just one of them. An example of a brand at 100% is apple. It is a brand that the whole world acknowledges. Apple has single handedly revolutionized the technology industry. They have marked their territory by creating value for their brand. The reason for their universal success is the sound base of quality their products are constructed upon. They are all at 100%, consistently. Another very important aspect is that apple products have a lot of demand, yet they do not diversify their supply. They keep their products limited in models, irrespective of the increased demand, but make sure to provide unsurpassed quality with each one of them. Just like some brands in the world really set themselves apart internationally, you can set yourself apart as a dentist. You should be mindful of the fact that having a good practice does not solely
rest on having a fancy clinic. You need to be at 100% with the services you are providing too. A difference between 99% and 100% is the same difference between an obturation 1.5mm short and one at full working length. It is the same as the difference between good margins and overhangs. It’s the same difference as just doing scaling and doing scaling plus follow-ups for re-care. You should also be at 100% non-clinically. Are you compassionate towards your patient? Are you cautious enough not to hurt your patient during dental treatment? Is your staff courteous? Are you aware of, and do you cater to extra needs of patients? A lot of practices are very tunnel vision and remain in the age-old theory of the “more the merrier”. They pay zero heed to customer service or creating value. They just want more patients in number. However, that is also the reason why they are just ordinary practices that do not excel or shine out in the society.
The main perk of creating value is that people will want to buy without you having to sell. Apple charges a lot of money for their products, but people still want to buy it. A lot of people have to really stretch their resources to buy the new product, but they do it anyway. Knowing that apple products are unbeatable and supreme, an apple user feels safe in his investment. He knows it is the best option for him. He also knows any faults are accounted for because of the unparalleled customer service that they provide their customers.
Another example I want to mention is Starbucks. There are cheaper coffees available but people still spend extra money and wait in line to experience Starbucks. You can get coffee for a dollar, but yet everyone goes to Starbucks because they know their coffees are consistent in quality every single time. Therefore, they do not mind spending extra.
finally manage to come for his appointment, he wanted me to make amends to the treatment plan I had presented. He argued how certain teeth should not be extracted at that time and that his cleaning can be completed later. However, I told him that if he wants the best treatment, he should let me do things as I have planned. There will be no change in it. Secondly, he needs to be on time or he will be charged for treatment irrespective of the fact if he shows up or not.
At the end of the day it can be summarized down to a very simple
rule. You are either 100% committed to providing great services or you’re not. That 1 percent will set you apart from the rest of the community. Be assure that in that 1 percent, the quality of
your service and products will be second to none, or be dearly
compromised to make you prosaic and dull. When you compromise on that last percent, you are settling to being
unimaginative. And that will be your plunge to 99%, 98%, and 97% and below.
Our attitude towards things determine their outcome. If you’re settling for less than the best, then you should be aware that is all you will ever get. This a consequence of life and who we are. You may justify it whichever way, blame anything and everything other than yourself. But remember this, success doesn’t work in percentages.
You cannot claim to be 50 or 80% successful. You wake up every
day, and on that day you either win or you lose. Once you accept this, you realize; every day gives you a chance to succeed. Change your mindset, strive for greatness every day.
They say greatness doesn’t come from being able to do big things, but it comes from not missing out on the small things. These small details matter. Much like how a snowball gathers itself and keeps on becoming bigger the more it slides down the
hill. It is this difference which sets apart ordinary from the extraordinary.
Greatness comes from the desire to do extraordinary things—to reach beyond the status quo and relentlessly chase your dreams.
Believing in yourself and in you abilities is essential in making good things happen for you. “Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: the potential for greatness lives within each of us.” _Wilma Rudolph
Going from ordinary to extraordinary means you are living with passion. You are spending your days excited about your life and
your future. You are deriving pleasure from your higher emotive
states of love, enthusiasm, and gratitude. Celebrate every win that
happens no matter how small and be extremely grateful for them.
Key to this transformation is
* Self-analysis
* Awareness of short comings
* Ability and will to overcome short comings
* Always striving to do more and better
knowing your own strengths and utilizing
those to full capacity
* Knowing the limitations
* Always open to new ideas and learning
* Passion
* Commitment
* Celebrate wins
* Learn from failure and find opportunities within failures
* Change failures to wins
* Action! Action! Action!
* Ability to make right and timely decisions
* Pick up good advice and ideas
* Ability to the block negativity within and from others
All of these habits and abilities can be developed if we decide to do so. And once we have developed them, we find ourselves at a stage where success and happiness is attracted to us.
I give credit to my father for one very important habit that he instilled in me. He always encouraged me to go over how I spent my day before sleeping every night. Through this recollection, I could think of ways to improve tomorrow. I could be a better person, do things in a better way and use better words to express myself. Find better friends to hang out with. It was also through his teachings that learned how to persevere in a disadvantageous situation, because only then can you turn it around to your benefit. In life, we come across many cross roads and opportunities and it is up to us to decide which path we want to take. Our decisions end
up shaping our future. One of the things that always inspired me was Steve Jobs' speech at Stanford. His ideology and mindset is reflected in how his company operates. When I walk into the Apple store, I don’t see the prices or models next to their products. They don’t need to market or advertise their products that way. This speaks to their confidence in terms of selling ability. They believe that once you’ve entered the shop, you will leave a loyal customer.
“Luck is what you have left over after you have given 100%.” Even luck favors those who give their 💯.
