نیوکلک ایسڈ ٹیکنالوجی (NAT) کی تاریخ حیاتیاتی سائنس کی بنیادی دریافتوں سے شروع ہو کر جدید طب اور تشخیصی نظام کے انقلابی مراحل تک پھیلی ہوئی ہے۔

1950ء کی دہائی میں واٹسن اور کرک کی جانب سے DNA کے ڈبل ہیلکس ڈھانچے کی دریافت نے وراثتی معلومات کے فہم کی بنیاد رکھی، جس کے بعد 1960ء اور 1970ء کی دہائی میں RNA، کوڈونز اور سنٹرل ڈاگما (DNA → RNA → Protein) کے تصورات واضح ہوئے۔ 1983ء میں کیری مولس کی ایجاد کردہ PCR ٹیکنالوجی نے DNA کی تیز رفتار افزائش ممکن بنا دی، جو تشخیصی لیبارٹریوں میں ایک سنگِ میل ثابت ہوئی، جبکہ 1990ء کی دہائی میں نیوکلک ایسڈ ایمپلیفکیشن ٹیسٹنگ (NAT) کو خون کی اسکریننگ کے لیے متعارف کرایا گیا، جس سے HIV اور ہیپاٹائٹس C جیسے وائرسز کو اینٹی باڈی بننے سے پہلے ہی شناخت کرنا ممکن ہوا اور خون کی منتقلی کو کہیں زیادہ محفوظ بنایا گیا۔

بعد ازاں mRNA، siRNA اور اینٹی سینس ادویات، CRISPR جین ایڈیٹنگ اور COVID-19 کی mRNA ویکسینز نے اس ٹیکنالوجی کو علاج، جین تھراپی اور پرسنلائزڈ میڈیسن کی بنیاد بنا دیا۔ اسی تناظر میں Roche Diagnostics کو NAT، PCR، ریئل ٹائم PCR اور مولیکیولر ڈائگناسٹکس سے متعلق متعدد بنیادی پیٹنٹس کی ملکیت یا لائسنس حاصل ہے، جس کے باعث اس کی مصنوعات پر “Patent Rights Reserved” درج ہوتا ہے، یعنی ان ٹیکنالوجیز کا بغیر اجازت تجارتی استعمال یا نقل قانوناً ممنوع ہے؛ یہی وجہ ہے کہ Roche کے سسٹمز استعمال کرنے والی لیبارٹریز کے لیے اصل کٹس، درست لائسنس، معیاری SOPs اور سخت کوالٹی کنٹرول کی پابندی ناگزیر ہے، اور اسی جامع معیار، قانونی تحفظ اور سائنسی اعتماد کی بنا پر Roche کی ٹیکنالوجی کو عالمی سطح پر مولیکیولر ڈائگناسٹکس میں ریفرنس اسٹینڈرڈ تسلیم کیا جاتا ہے۔

یہ کہنا کہ دنیا بھر میں NAT (Nucleic Acid Testing) صرف Roche کے پاس ہے، سائنسی اور قانونی طور پر مکمل طور پر درست نہیں، تاہم یہ حقیقت اپنی جگہ مسلمہ ہے کہ Roche Diagnostics اس ٹیکنالوجی کی بانی، قائد اور سب سے بڑے پیٹنٹ ہولڈرز میں شمار ہوتی ہے۔ NAT کی کمرشل بنیاد، خاص
طور پر خون کی اسکریننگ (HIV، HCV، HBV) میں، Roche نے ہی 1990ء کی دہائی میں رکھی اور اس کے پاس PCR اور NAT سے متعلق کئی بنیادی (Foundational) پیٹنٹس رہے ہیں، جن کی بنیاد پر دنیا کی بیشتر لیبارٹریز نے یہ ٹیکنالوجی اپنائی۔ بعد ازاں دیگر عالمی کمپنیاں جیسے Grifols، Abbott، Hologic اور bioMérieux نے بھی یا تو Roche سے لائسنس لے کر یا پیٹنٹس کی مدت ختم ہونے کے بعد اپنی NAT بیسڈ سسٹمز متعارف کرائیں، مگر معیار، ریفرنس ویلیو اور ریگولیٹری قبولیت کے اعتبار سے آج بھی Roche کی NAT ٹیکنالوجی کو گولڈ اسٹینڈرڈ سمجھا جاتا ہے۔

اس لیے درست مؤقف یہ ہے کہ NAT صرف Roche تک محدود نہیں، مگر اس ٹیکنالوجی کی سائنسی بنیاد، عالمی اعتماد اور تاریخی قیادت کا مرکزی کردار Roche ہی کے پاس رہا ہے۔
