what is a Baker's cyst?
➡️A Baker's cyst is a fluid-filled swelling that develops at the back of the knee.
⚫Physiotherapy for a Baker's cyst:
🔹Physiotherapy can help with pain, swelling, and range of motion. It can also help prevent the cyst from coming back.
⚫Physiotherapy techniques:
1.RICE: Rest, ice, compression, and elevation can reduce pain and swelling
Range of motion exercises: Gentle exercises can improve flexibility and mobility
2.Strength training: Exercises can strengthen the muscles around the knee
3. Manual therapy: Massage or joint mobilizations can improve joint mobility
4. Ultrasound therapy: Can increase circulation and decrease pain
5. Electrical stimulation: Can reduce knee swelling and pain
6.Iontophoresis: Uses a mild electrical current to push anti-inflammatory medicine to the sore area
7.Kinesio taping: Can reduce inflammation
8. Foam rollers: Can help with myofascial symptoms
⚫Other considerations:
Physiotherapists can provide advice on activity modification and proper knee care
In the early stages, physiotherapy focuses on restoring knee joint range of movement
As knee pain improves, exercises can build knee strength
For people with athletic goals, rehab can help prepare for impact and multi-directional movements.
