HEARTFAILURE & IRON DEFICIENCY

Large clinical randomized trials demonstrated that IV iron therapy yields beneficial results with regard to Heart Failure patients’ exercise capacity, morbidity, and quality of life.
The fact that the improvements to quality of life and exercise capacity are apparent even in patients that were not anaemic seems to challenge the traditional notion that iron deficiency's detrimental influence is exerted mainly through the development of anaemia.

INTRAVENOUS IRON DURING PREGNANCY

An Australian study with app. 1,000 pregnant women found that intravenous iron significantly increased haemoglobin with mild, moderate, and severe iron deficiency anaemia and women with iron deficiency alone at 3 and 6 week post-infusion.
No serious adverse events were recorded, with minor temporary side effects (including local skin irritation, nausea, and headache) occurring in 96 (11%) women. No adverse fetal or neonatal outcomes were observed.

CONCLUSIONS: Intravenous iron infusion corrects iron deficiency or various degrees of iron deficiency anemia efficaciously and safely in pregnant women.

HAIR LOSS & IRON DEFICIENCY
The skin is very rich in iron and this is needed to support hair follicle growth. Normallly 90% of hair follicles grow and 10% shed.

A low iron crisis (after childbirth) can cause the body to switch to 30-40% hair shedding - a person has excessive hair shedding. The medical term for this condition is telogen effluvium.
