Pathology diagnostic services are the backbone of any hospital. Precise and accurate laboratory results help clinicians in making the diagnosis. The laboratories of both hospitals comprise of various sections. All these sections are equipped with the latest equipment and supervised by highly qualified and experienced consultants / specialists in their respective fields. Faculty of Pathology department is involved in supervision and clinical activities related to the laboratories of both hospitals. Students are introduced to sub-specialties such as chemical pathology, hematology, microbiology, histopathology and immunology. Students are also encouraged to get involved in departmental research work.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that’s found in many foods, particularly fruits and vegetables.
It’s well known for being a potent antioxidant, as well as having positive effects on skin health and immune function.
The human body cannot produce or store vitamin C. Therefore, it’s essential to consume it regularly in sufficient amounts.
The current daily value (DV) for vitamin C is 90 mg.
Deficiency symptoms include bleeding gums, frequent bruising and infections, poor wound healing, anemia and scurvy.

Pakistan alone has the highest rate of Breast Cancer than any other Asian country as approximately 90000 new cases are diagnosed every year out of which 40000 die. According to a research conducted approximately 1 out of every 9 women are likely to suffer from this disease at any point in their lives and about 77% of invasive breast cancer occurred in women above 50 years, but if diagnosed early the survival rates approach 90%.

In Asia, Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer. Young women also present at advanced stage of breast cancer, which has negative effect on prognosis. Mammogram is a screening program, which is very helpful and effective in the detection of the disease. Most of the population cannot afford this screening program because it is very expensive. The simplest technique is Breast self-examination (BSE) to check one-self monthly. Trained medical practitioners and nurses at health centers teach the women, how to use Breast self-examination technique once a month. Majority of the Pakistani women are living in poor conditions and cannot afford expensive screening tests. Therefore, they can use easily this technique by themselves and detection breast cancer at early stage.

Screening mammograms are recommended for all women without breast symptoms over the age of 40 on a yearly basis.
We also recommend that you do a monthly breast self-exam and undergo a clinical breast exam by your physician annually.
You may need a screening mammogram before the age of 40 if you have a family history of breast cancer or other factors that increase a woman’s risk of breast cancer. Central Park Teaching Hospital can assist you in determining if you need screening at an earlier age.

While you can’t change some breast cancer risk factors, family history and ageing. But these are some risk factors that you can control.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. It helps to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease. Early detection of the disease remains the cornerstone of breast cancer control. When breast cancer is detected early, and if adequate diagnosis and treatment are available, there is a good chance that breast cancer can be cured.
