Psychological First Aid Training for Basic Sciences Faculty – FJMU Lahore
The Academic Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, in collaboration with the Department of Medical Education, Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU), Lahore, successfully organized an interactive training session on Psychological First Aid (PFA) for basic sciences faculty.
The session was held under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal. Prof. Bilquis Shabbir (Director DME & QEC and Dean Undergraduate) graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Special guests included Prof. Mohammad Nadeem (Registrar FJMU) and Prof. Aaliya (Dean Basic Sciences).
The audience comprised Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors from all basic science departments, along with hostel assistant wardens and housekeeping staff—recognizing their crucial role as first responders in student wellbeing.
The training focused on equipping participants with essential skills to understand how PFA sessions are conducted, recognize early signs of distress in students, and provide timely, compassionate support. Through interactive discussions and case-based activities such as “The Student Behind the Smile,” participants explored the hidden challenges students may face and practical ways to facilitate their return to normalcy.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of Psychological First Aid as a core faculty responsibility, highlighting how early recognition, empathetic engagement, and collaborative problem-solving can significantly impact student wellbeing and academic success.
The session concluded with enthusiastic feedback from participants, followed by shield and certificate distribution, marking a successful step toward strengthening a supportive academic environment at FJMU.
