Therapy Goals & Benefits:

1. Sensory Integration:

The blue cushion balance disc provides tactile (touch) and proprioceptive (deep pressure) input.

It helps children regulate sensory responses, especially those with sensory processing challenges.

2. Balance and Core Strength:

Holding this position engages the core muscles, shoulders, and arms.

Improves body awareness and postural control.

3. Hand Strength and Coordination:

Pressing on different textures (soft cushion vs. firm ball) strengthens hand and finger muscles.

Helps develop fine motor control, which supports handwriting, buttoning, etc.

4. Motor Planning:

Alternating hands or balancing weight teaches the child to plan and execute controlled body movements.

5. Focus and Attention:

Activities with varied textures and balance challenges help improve attention span and self-regulation.

Did you know?

Before, children can develop hangwriting skills
they need strong and stable shoulder muscles.
At the love and care autism centre, we focus on building
those big shoulder muscles - because strong
shoulders mean better control, stability, and
endurance for the smaller muscles of the hand. This
translates into more meaningful progress in fine
motor control and improved handwriting over time.

It's not just about the hand. It's about the whole
body working together!
