Text Neck
Text Neck is a repetitive strain injury caused by prolonged forward bending of the head while using smartphones, tablets, or other digital devices. This posture places excessive stress on the cervical spine, leading to pain and musculoskeletal problems.
Causes:
• Prolonged use of mobile phones or tablets
• Poor posture while texting or browsing
• Holding devices below eye level for long periods
• Lack of ergonomic awareness
Common Symptoms:
• Neck pain and stiffness
• Shoulder and upper back pain
• Headache
• Reduced neck mobility
• Muscle fatigue in the cervical and upper thoracic region
Risk Factors:
• Excessive screen time
• Sedentary lifestyle
• Poor sitting posture
• Weak neck and upper back muscles
Prevention:
• Hold devices at eye level
• Maintain proper sitting posture
• Take frequent breaks from screen use
• Perform regular neck stretching and strengthening exercises
