Scientists just pulled off something extraordinary.
A Stanford team cured type 1 diabetes in mice using a transplant strategy that resets the immune system instead of suppressing it. The method combines blood-forming stem cells with insulin-producing islet cells, teaching the body to stop attacking the pancreas.
Every treated mouse recovered, even those already living with the disease. Researchers say the approach could move toward human trials because many components are already in medical use.
It’s early, but the idea is simple and bold — fix the immune system and the disease disappears.
