Pre-Conference Workshop on Physiology in Action through Gamification
Today at Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), a pre-conference workshop titled Physiology in Action through Gamification was successfully conducted as part of the upcoming PhysCon 25 Conference, scheduled to take place at FMH in the first week of October. The workshop was attended by a distinguished gathering of senior faculty from various basic sciences departments. Among them were the Heads of Departments of Anatomy, Pathology, and Pharmacology, who graced the occasion along with other senior faculty members and students from SIMS as well as Avicenna Medical College.
The event formally began with a welcome note by Professor Dr. Mohammad Shoaib (head of Physiology deptt.), who warmly greeted the participants and dignitaries. In his address, he introduced the lead resource person, Professor Dr. Saima Batool, and highlighted the importance of gamification tools in medical education, emphasizing their potential to make learning more interactive, engaging, and effective.
Following this, Professor Dr. Saima Batool delivered the main workshop session. Through her insightful presentation, she explained the benefits of gamification and how it can be effectively integrated into routine medical studies. Her talk set the tone for an engaging and interactive learning experience.
The session was co-facilitated by Dr. Abeer Fatima (Assistant Professor Physiology deptt.), who conducted a lively Mentimeter activity with the participants. This interactive exercise added great energy to the session and further demonstrated the effectiveness of gamification in learning.
The proceedings were further enriched by the presence of Professor Dr. Zohra Khanam, Principal SIMS / SHL, who addressed the participants. She shed light on the latest developments at SIMS, reaffirmed her commitment to innovation in medical education, and supported the initiation of a Learning Management System (LMS) at SIMS. Her remarks were highly encouraging and reflected her vision for continuous advancement in both academics and healthcare facilities.
Adding to the depth of the event, Professor Dr. Hamid, a senior physiologist, also shared his thoughts. He reflected on the basic concepts of physiology and applauded the initiative, commending the workshop for its interactive approach.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants were invited to share their reflections and feedback. Faculty members and students alike expressed their appreciation for the highly interactive format, noting that the workshop broadened their perspective on modern teaching methodologies. The collective feedback was overwhelmingly positive, underscoring the success and impact of the workshop
The workshop concluded with the presentation of a shield of appreciation to Professor Dr. Saima Batool in recognition of her valuable contribution. The event ended on a pleasant note with tea served to all participants.
Overall, the workshop was a resounding success, setting a strong foundation for the upcoming PhysCon 25 Conference and promoting innovative strategies in medical education.
