Institute of Public Health established at 6-Birdwood Road, Lahore in 1949 with the name of Institute of Hygiene & Preventive Medicine is the premier institution regarding public health education, training and research in Pakistan, Institute of Hygiene & Preventive Medicine was named as College of Community Medicine in 1980 and renamed as Institute of Public Health (IPH) in 1995.

Dean Institute of Public Health, Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal, featured on Capital TV’s show “Capital Clinic”, shared an expert analysis on the current dengue situation in Punjab. She emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, community participation, and sustained vector control measures to curb the spread of the disease.

She also highlighted IPH’s continuous efforts in research, surveillance, and public health training to strengthen the province’s dengue response.

The IPH Journal/Research Club holds weekly meetings under the supervision of worthy Dean IPH Professor dr Saira Afzal to encourage learning through discussions on new developments in the medical field. On Saturday, 18th october 2025, both postgraduate and undergraduate (BSc. MLT) students presented their research and interacted with leading researchers and faculty members from different institutes. Many participants shared that this activity helps them understand modern medical research better and improves the quality of their work, especially in finding solutions for communities with limited healthcare access.

The Dean IPH, Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal, with her team consisting of Sir Asif Mehmood (Entomologist), Mr. Faisal Mushtaq (HOD, Biostatistics) and Mr. Muhammad Umar Farooq (Biostatistician) participated as facilitators to deliver their lecture on "vector borne diseases" in context of Dengue. The team thanked UKHSA representative, Dr. Saeed for giving the opportunity as well as they highlighted the vision of IPH, objectives of the up coming conference "Bridging the gap between sustainable development and global health security through collaboration innovation and resilience " on 28-30 November, at Lahore. The participants appreciated the efforts of worthy dean and her team for organising the conference. The team told them about the role of IPH in prevention and control specifically giving example of the dengue disease. At the end, a question answer session was also taken up to address the queries.

Daily Morning Meeting - Updates & Institutional Affairs
The worthy Dean, IPH, Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal has started daily morning meetings with the head of departments and faculty to have insight on the daily tasks assigned and discuss institutional affairs for better service delivery and governance. The dean directed the concerned HODs to furnish daily update on the progress pertaining to institution as well as maintaining the service delivery standards and get maximum output for the general population and community services.

Under the guidance and supervision of the dean, IPH, Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal, a project for the community to timely diagnose, treat the patients as well as referral for emergency and need for tertiary care healthcare facilities.
