*Placenta-Related Complications in Pregnancy: What You Need to Know*

Some pregnancies may involve certain conditions related to the placenta, a vital organ that supports your baby’s growth and development. Knowing the warning signs early can help ensure a safe and healthy delivery.

Here are three rare but important conditions to understand:

🔸 *Placenta Praevia*
This happens when the placenta lies low in the uterus and partially or completely covers the cervix. It can cause painless bleeding in the second or third trimester and may require delivery by C-section.

🔸 *Placenta Accreta*
In this condition, the placenta grows too deeply into the wall of the uterus. It may not detach properly after delivery and can cause heavy bleeding. Early diagnosis and planning are key.

🔸 *Vasa Praevia*
This occurs when fetal blood vessels run across the cervix. It’s rare but serious, and can lead to complications if not detected early through ultrasound.

Most women with these conditions go on to have healthy babies—with timely diagnosis, monitoring, and a carefully planned delivery.

If you’ve been told you have a low-lying placenta or have any concerns related to bleeding or ultrasound findings, consult Dr. Sadia Rizwan for expert care and guidance.

*About Birth choice? Here's What You Need to Know*

Choosing how to bring your baby into the world is a deeply personal decision. Giving birth va**nally , is the the natural way and is least risky for both baby and mother .If you're contemplating a planned (elective) caesarean birth, it's essential to be informed about the benefits and risks involved.

*Key Points:*

*Recovery and Health:* Most women recover well and have healthy babies, whether they have a va**nal or caesarean birth.

*Surgical Procedure:* A planned caesarean is a major surgical procedure with its own set of risks, which should be weighed against those of a planned va**nal birth.

*Individual Preferences:* Every woman's situation is unique. Your individual needs and preferences are crucial in planning the birth of your baby.

*Early Discussions:* If you're considering a caesarean birth or have concerns about childbirth, discuss them with your healthcare professional as early as possible.

*Supportive Care:* After considering the benefits and risks, if you decide that a planned caesarean is right for you, your healthcare team should support your choice.

For guidance on making the right birth choice based on your health, preferences, and circumstances, you can consult Dr. Sadia Rizwan for supportive and well-informed care.

*Understanding Third- & Fourth-Degree Tears in Childbirth*

During va**nal birth, some women may experience deeper tears known as third- or fourth-degree tears. These are called obstetric a**l sphincter injuries (OASI) and happen when the tear extends to the muscles around the a**s.

While this sounds scary, please know that:

âś… These tears are rare
âś… They can be repaired successfully
âś… With the right care and follow-up, most women recover well and go on to have healthy future pregnancies

*How do they happen?*
They may occur during a fast birth, if the baby is large, or if instruments like forceps are used . Sometimes, a protective cut called an episiotomy is done to reduce the risk of a more serious tear ,but episiotomy itself is the risk factor for major degree tears.
*What recovery looks like:*

- You’ll receive stitches right after birth
- Pain relief and stool softeners are usually given
- Gentle hygiene, rest, and pelvic floor exercises can help recovery

A follow-up is usually scheduled to check healing and discuss future births

*The good news?*
You are not alone. With proper care, your body can heal beautifully, and the chances of this happening again can be greatly reduced in your next delivery.

đź’› You are not alone. Your safety, comfort, and confidence matter.

For any concerns related to birth injuries or recovery, you can consult Dr. Sadia Rizwan for expert guidance and compassionate care.

🔹 Swelling in the face, hands, or feet

*Understanding Acute Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)*

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) is an infection that affects the female reproductive organs, including the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. It's often caused by bacteria spreading from the va**na or cervix.

*Common Symptoms:*

- Lower abdominal pain
- Unusual va**nal discharge
- Pain during or after in*******se
- Bleeding between periods or after s*x
- Fever, nausea, or vomiting
- Lower backache

It's important to note that some women may not experience noticeable symptoms.

*Diagnosis and Treatment:*
If you suspect PID, consult a healthcare professional promptly. Diagnosis typically involves discussing your symptoms, medical and s*xual history, and may include a pelvic examination. Treatment usually consists of a course of antibiotics, and it's crucial to complete the entire course even if symptoms improve.

*Prevention Tips:*

- Practice safe in*******se by using protection.

- Screening is advised before entering into a new nikah or marriage, as part of responsible reproductive health care.

*Navigating Pregnancy with a Higher BMI*

Pregnancy is a unique journey for every individual. If you have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or above, it’s essential to be informed about potential risks and proactive steps to ensure a healthy pregnancy and postpartum period.

*Understanding the Risks:*

- *Gestational Diabetes:* A BMI of 30 or higher increases the likelihood of developing gestational diabetes.

- *High Blood Pressure & Pre-eclampsia:* The risk of pre-eclampsia is 2–4 times higher for those with a BMI over 30.

- *Thrombosis:* Being overweight heightens the chance of blood clots in the legs or lungs.

- *Birth Complications:* There’s an increased possibility of requiring a caesarean section and facing challenges during anesthesia.

- *Baby’s Health:* Risks include miscarriage, stillbirth, or having a baby with a high birth weight.

*Proactive Measures:*

- *Regular Monitoring:* Frequent check-ups to monitor blood pressure, glucose levels, and baby’s growth.

- *Healthy Lifestyle:* Adopt a balanced diet and engage in safe physical activities as advised by your healthcare provider.

- *Mental Well-being:* Being overweight can slightly increase the risk of mental health issues during and after pregnancy. Open discussions with your healthcare team can provide support.

- *Personalized Care:* Your healthcare team will work with you to create a care plan tailored to your needs.

Remember, many individuals with a higher BMI have healthy pregnancies and babies. The key is informed, proactive care.

🌙 Eid-ul-Adha Mubarak!
Wishing all the lovely moms-to-be a joyful, peaceful, and spiritually uplifting Eid! đź’›

As you celebrate with your families, here are a few important health tips for expecting mothers during this meat-filled season:

🥩 Avoid dishes made from liver, brain, and other organ meats. These are high in certain nutrients (like Vitamin A) that can be harmful in excess during pregnancy.

🔥 Always eat well-cooked meat. Undercooked qurbani meat can carry infections that pose risks in pregnancy.

🧤 Wear double gloves when handling raw meat. This reduces the risk of bacteria or contamination.

💧 Stay hydrated! With all the Eid cooking and celebration, don’t forget to drink lots of water!

🧼 Maintain hygiene! Wash hands thoroughly and sanitize your prep space after handling meat.

👣 Take breaks and don’t overexert. Listen to your body and rest when needed.

Take care of yourself while you take care of everyone else this Eid. May Allah bless you and your baby with health, peace, and barakah. Ameen. 🤍

đź’” Understanding Early Miscarriage

Experiencing a miscarriage, especially in the early weeks of pregnancy, can be heartbreaking. It’s more common than most people think and happens in the first 12 weeks in many pregnancies.

What are the signs?
- Vaginal bleeding or spotting
- Lower abdominal cramps
- Passing of tissue or clots
- Loss of pregnancy symptoms

Why does it happen?
Most early miscarriages are caused by chromosomal changes in the baby that occur by chance. It’s important to remember that in most cases, it’s not your fault.

What can be done?
Depending on the situation, your doctor may recommend:

- Letting the miscarriage happen naturally
- Medication to speed up the process
- A minor procedure to remove pregnancy tissue

No matter the method, physical healing happens faster than emotional healing, and both matter. Allow yourself space to grieve and seek support when needed.

If you’ve experienced a miscarriage, you’re not alone. You are strong. You are still a mother. And when you're ready, there is always hope ahead.

🧼 Keep bath time short—5 to 10 minutes
🧼 Wrap your baby in a soft towel right after and dry carefully, especially in skin folds

💡 Pro Tip: Make sure the room is warm and calm. Bathing can be a soothing experience—for both of you.
