I really think the 85% attendance rule in some medical colleges is harming Pakistan's future.
*When something becomes a compulsion the mind repels from it.*
Especially in medical colleges -
The 85% attendance rule is limiting our future doctors' potential! It's time to shift from compulsory lectures to a more engaging and practical approach.
How about giving a provision to attend clinics and working extra in your own college hospital in the department of your choice (completely different from clinical postings)?
If you give students freedom to actually attend a fraction (twice a week) of that same '85%' duration in the department of their choice:
it'll make medical science more interesting
Students can build professional relations with the doctors and the staff, they will understand how everything works, how is everything in the hospital run, the logistics behind that.
They can understand the hospital system better and give feedback to make the system better
Mentor-mentee program can be properly executed here finally
Higher chances of research papers being published at the UG Level a sense of accomplishment for medical students as they can get personalised training.
It will reduce mental pressure and unproductive hours during lectures and help upskill and learn soft skills in real life.
Gives students a flexible learning opportunity and makes college fun and not merely for 'attendance'
There's a lot to modify in this, there will be a lot of room for improvement in this idea. This system just focuses on scores and classes not on all over-all development of the student. This leads to stress and discourages the youth.
We're definitely worth more than just 85% attendance.
