Take medication: Take your medication as prescribed and speak to your doctor if you have concerns.
Identify triggers: Keep a seizure diary to identify triggers and avoid them. Common triggers include stress, lack of sleep, and alcohol.
Practice a healthy lifestyle: Eat a well-balanced diet, exercise regularly, and maintain a healthy weight. Avoid to***co and illegal drugs.
Get enough sleep: Fatigue is a common trigger for seizures.
Make your home safer: Install doors that open outwards or sideways, or use concertina doors. Use rubber or anti-slip flooring. Keep ponds and pools covered or fenced.
Involve loved ones: Let people close to you know what to do if you have a seizure.
Consider a ketogenic diet: This diet may help control seizures in children, but it's not widely used in adults. It's high in fat and low in carbohydrates and protein. You should only consider this diet under the supervision of an epilepsy specialist and dietitian.
