A pilonidal sinus is a small hole or tunnel in the skin, usually at the top of the buttocks near the tailbone. It can become infected and filled with pus, forming an abscess. Itโs more common in young men and people who sit for long periods.
โ ๏ธ Common Causes:
Ingrown hairs
Friction or pressure (from prolonged sitting)
Poor hygiene
Excessive body hair
Family history
๐ฉบ Symptoms:
Pain and swelling near the tailbone
Redness and tenderness in the area
Pus or bloody discharge from the opening
Foul smell
Fever (if infected)
๐ ๏ธ Treatment Options:
Conservative treatment: Antibiotics, cleaning, and hair removal (early stage)
Surgical drainage: For infected abscess
Excision surgery: Complete removal of the sinus tract for permanent relief

If left untreated, pilonidal sinus can recur or lead to repeated infections.
