Inauguration of National Polio Vaccination Campaign 2026

The inauguration ceremony of the National Polio Vaccination Campaign 2026 was held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Bahria International Hospital, Lahore. The campaign was inaugurated by Dr. Ahad Qayyum, Consultant Nephrologist and Medical Director, who administered oral polio drops to children, marking the official launch of the campaign. The five-day campaign will continue until Friday, February 6, 2026, with all children under five years of age identified as the target population.

Dr. Syed Zahid Bukhari, Consultant Microbiologist and Infection Control, conveyed the message of Dr. Shazia Asim, Vice President, and highlighted the significant contribution and firm commitment of Bahria International Hospital Lahore toward the eradication of polio from Pakistan.

The ceremony was attended by the hospital faculty, management, nursing administration, pharmacy staff, and other clinical and non-clinical administrative personnel. A short awareness video was also presented, depicting a doctor administering polio drops to a child and reinforcing the importance of vaccination with the message: “Two drops save a life.”

The event received extensive coverage from numerous media channels, reflecting strong institutional support and public commitment to the national polio eradication initiative.

First National Polio Eradication campaign 2026 at Bahria International Hospital Lahore
There is five days (February 2-6, 2026) free polio vaccination campaign at Bahria International Hospital Lahore from 9.0 am to 2.0 pm. This campaign will support the Pakistan Polio eradication program (PPEP) in close coordination with Government of The Punjab.
Target Population:
Primary Target: All children under the age of 5 years (approximately 44-45 million children nationwide).
Secondary/Supplemental Targets: children belong to high-risk reservoir areas, the campaign might also target children up to 10 years of age to build a stronger immunity wall.
Campaign Period:
Dates: Monday, February 2, 2026, to Friday, February 6, 2026.
Duration: 5 days.
Rationale: This early-year campaign is strategically crucial to build population immunity before the traditional high-transmission season (spring/summer). It follows the standard multi-day format to allow for revisits and catch-up of missed children.
