• The de'Montmorency College of Dentistry is situated on Fort Road, Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan and has the historical edifice of Badshahi Mosque to its north. Sir Geoffery Fritzharvey de'Montmorency, the then Governor of the Punjab, founded this institution in 1929 and the Punjab Dental Hospital started functioning on April, 1930.In 1934 the de'Montmorency College of Dentistry was established in the same premises. It initially offered a two year condensed course for Medical Graduates(M.B.B.S) leading to the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery(B.D.S). In 1936 the college offered a four-year course for the degree B.D.S in affiliation with the University of the Punjab.From year 2003, it is affiliated with University of Health Sciences, Lahore.It is recognized by PMDC to enroll 80 students per year.Now the number of students have reached to 111.It also provides clinical training for Specialization in various dental specialities at Post Graduate level and degrees like M.D.S, FCPS, MCPS, MPHIL, MCPS affiliated by CPSP, PGMI and UHS are part of postgraduate education . Finally good news of allocation of 600 million in recent budget by the Government towards long ignored project of FJID despite of an economic emergency in the country.
As we appreciate long struggle of dental community, Associations and media, we must not forget to pay our profound gratitude to Dr Arif Alvi, President of Pakistan who finally made it possible to allocate necessary funds for completion of Fatima Jinnah Institute of Dentistry. He not only paid a special visit to his alma mater but makes sure to fulfill his commitment made in special briefings in President house by the delegation comprising Principal, Prof. Waheed Ul Hamid, Project Director, Prof Usman Akhtar and Dr Wasif Ali Khan.
Hope this dream comes true very soon.
