Acute Stress Reaction (ASR)—also known as Acute Stress Response or shock—is the immediate psychological and physical reaction to a sudden traumatic or stressful event, typically lasting for hours to a few days.

🧠 What is Acute Stress Reaction?

ASR is a normal, short-term response to overwhelming stress, such as:

Accidents

Sudden loss

Violence

Natural disasters

COMMON SIGNS:

Disorientation or confusion

Palpitations, sweating, shakiness

Emotional numbness or detachment

Hyper-alertness or panic

Crying spells or silence

It’s your brain and body trying to protect you from psychological harm.

> “It’s okay not to feel okay after something shocking. The brain needs time to process what just happened.”

If symptoms persist beyond a few days or worsen, it may progress into Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) or PTSD, and professional help should be considered.

Everyone can feel anxious sometimes, but people with anxiety disorders often experience fear and worry that is both intense and excessive.

Anxiety disorders interfere with daily activities and can impair a person’s family, social and school or working life.
Anxiety disorders are the world’s most common mental disorders, affecting 301 million people.

Symptoms of anxiety disorders include:

❤️‍🩹 Excessive fear or worry.
❤️‍🩹 Trouble concentrating.
❤️‍🩹 Feeling irritable, tense or restless.
❤️‍🩹 Nausea or abdominal distress.
❤️‍🩹 Heart palpitations.
❤️‍🩹 Sweating, trembling or shaking.
❤️‍🩹 Trouble sleeping.
❤️‍🩹 A sense of impending danger, panic or doom.

Symptoms often begin during childhood or adolescence and continue into adulthood. Girls and women are more likely to experience an anxiety disorder than boys and men.

To help manage your symptoms of anxiety and promote your overall well-being, you can:

1️⃣ Avoid or cut down on alcohol and don’t use illicit drugs.
2️⃣ Exercise regularly, even if it’s just a short walk.
3️⃣ Stick to regular eating and sleeping habits and eat a healthy diet;
4️⃣ Learn relaxation techniques, such as slow breathing and progressive muscle relaxation.

*World Doctors Day | 30 March*

🩺Today, we honor the commitment of doctors around the world, while acknowledging a silent crisis.

⚠️Doctors worldwide are facing *high levels of burnout, depression, anxiety, and su***de.* They dedicate their lives to healing others, yet their own mental health is often overlooked.

*Key facts:*
😔 Work overload, low pay, unsafe environments & stigma leave many struggling in silence.
📉 WHO warns of a shortfall of 11 million health workers by 2030.
💔 Female doctors are 76% more likely to die by su***de than other women.
🚨 Only 35% of countries offer national work-related mental health support programs.

Let’s use this day to raise awareness and celebrate doctors everywhere for the care and dedication they bring to their work every day! ❤️

Healthcare workers face unique pressures every day:
📌 Long shifts
📌 Emotionally charged situations
📌 Responsibility for caring for others
📌 Making life or death decisions

These pressures are accompanied by rudeness, incivility and harassment, sometimes from their own colleagues, taking a toll on mental health and wellbeing.

❤️ This is why kindness matters so much!

Research shows that better mental health among healthcare providers leads to:
🟢 Better patient outcomes
🟢 Better teamwork
🟢 Better communication
🟢 More focus on the patient

Let’s commit to being kind to ourselves and to each other🧡
