Story of the first death from in KP, District Mardan,UC Manga:
On 8th March, patient X departed from KSA via direct flight of PIA departing from Jeddah & arrived at Bacha Khan Airport, on 9th March 2020. During the flight, the patient was accompanied by two of his friends, all friends went on a visit to KSA for Umrah. After arriving at his home in UC Manga, District Mardan on 9th March 2020, the family of the patient X arranged a grand lunch where almost all villagers attended the gathering and greeted the patient. In his home, patient X lived with a family comprising of 12 members. He was living in a neighborhood with his relatives in his native village & met his relatives frequently & visited their households. The Patient was received at DHQ Mardan on 16th March 2020 with complaints of cough, fever, and difficulty in breathing. He was notified as a suspected patient of COVID19 and his nasopharyngeal swab was sent to NIH Islamabad through DHO Office Mardan. He refused to get quarantined in DHQ Hospital Mardan and preferred staying at home. On 18th March 2020, NIH confirmed patient X as a confirmed case of COVID19 and a team of doctors went to track the contacts and shifted the patient to Mardan Medical Complex Isolation Center where he died.
The purpose of the detailed story is to create awareness about the importance of self-isolation and social distancing as a single infected person can transmit the infection to an entire village.
Dr. M who got in contact with the patient as the first healthcare provider herself is experiencing symptoms of cough and sore throat. A sample has been taken from Dr. M and dispatched to NIH Islamabad.
