Farewell Ceremony – Pediatric Medicine Unit 2

A farewell was arranged today by The Pediatric Medicine Unit 2 to honor the dedicated House Officers as they concluded a remarkable chapter of their medical journey.

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan (Head of Department), along with Dr. Muhammad Faisal Mahar (Assistant Professor), Dr Sana Asghar SR, Dr. Zulfiqar Chan SR,
Dr. Salman Zafar SR, Dr. Khawar (Admin Registrar), Medical Officers, and Residents.

*A Heartfelt Farewell to Our Outgoing Residents*
Today, Pediatric Unit 2 came together to bid a warm farewell to our esteemed outgoing residents: Dr. Younus Siddiqi, Dr. Khwaja Muhammad Afnan, and Dr. Muhammad Saqib Hameed, on the successful completion of their residency. The farewell ceremony was a beautiful blend of pride, joy, and nostalgia, celebrating their dedication, perseverance, and invaluable contributions to our department.
The event was graced by esteemed presence of Prof. Afsheen Asghar Khan (HOD), along with Dr. Faisal Mahar (AP), Dr. Sana Asghar (SR), Dr. Salman Zafar (SR), Dr. Khawar Shahzad (Admin Registrar), MOs, and fellow residents. Their kind words, encouragement, and reflections made the occasion even more memorable.

The Department of Pediatrics, Nishtar Medical University and Hospital Multan successfully organized a Pre-Conference Hands-on Workshop on Peritoneal Dialysis as part of the 6th Biennial International Pediatric Nephrology Conference. The workshop was designed to enhance practical skills, promote active learning, and strengthen clinical competence among postgraduate trainees and nursing staff.
The sessions focused on team-based care, protocol-driven management, and interactive case discussions, aiming to improve patient outcomes and regional capacity in pediatric renal care.
We are deeply grateful to our Patron-in-Chief, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mehnaz Khakwani, Chief Guest, Principal Professor Dr. Rashad Qamar Rao, and our respected Dean & Chairman Pediatrics, Professor Dr. Azam Khan, as well as Associate Professor Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan (HOD, Pediatrics Unit-11) for their unwavering support, leadership, and encouragement in promoting academic excellence and capacity building. An ultrasound-guided pediatric renal biopsy was successfully performed by our Level III and Level IV trainees, under the supervision and expert guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Faisal Mahar, under the kind leadership of Prof. Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan.

This achievement reflects their dedication, mentorship, and tireless efforts in strengthening and flourishing the Pediatric Nephrology Department at Nishtar Hospital.

A seminar on “The Role of Nutrition in Brain Development” was conducted as part of an academic session at Ramada Hotel Multan.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan, who presented an excellent overview of the vital role of nutrition in enhancing child brain growth and cognitive development.

It was indeed an honour to share the presentation in this academic session ,made truly memorable by the gracious presence of her respected teacher and mentor, Prof. Dr. Pervaiz Akbar Khan.

On 16th June, a Neonatal Resuscitation Workshop was successfully conducted in Pediatric Medicine Unit 2, facilitated by Dr. Ghazanfar Nadeem Ansar under the supervision of Professor Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan.

World Hygiene Day was observed with great zeal at the Department of Pediatric Medicine, Nishtar Hospital Multan, organized under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan (HOD). The event was actively participated by Dr. Faisal Mehar (Assistant Professor), all faculty members, residents, house officers, and nursing staff.

On this occasion, Dr. Muhammad Khalid delivered an insightful talk on the importance of hand hygiene, emphasizing its vital role in preventing infections, especially in vulnerable pediatric patients. In his concluding remarks, Dr. Faisal Mehar also stressed the need for regular hand washing and its significance in maintaining a safe and clean hospital environment.

Today, an engaging and informative lecture on Neonatal Examination was held in Pediatric Medicine Unit 2, conducted by Dr. Salman Zafar under the esteemed supervision of Professor Dr. Afsheen Asghar Khan.

The session was attended by Postgraduate Residents (PGRs), Medical Officers, and House Officers, with a strong focus on essential neonatal examination skills.
