In the laboratory, every drop of blood tells a story. The CBC (Complete Blood Count) is one of the most essential diagnostic tests, providing key insights into:
✅ Red blood cells (RBCs) – Oxygen transport and anemia detection
✅ White blood cells (WBCs) – Immune defense and infection monitoring
✅ Platelets (PLTs) – Blood clotting and bleeding disorders
✅ Hemoglobin & Hematocrit – Indicators of oxygen-carrying capacity
The test may look simple, but its impact is profound—guiding physicians in diagnosing conditions from infections and anemia to blood cancers and immune disorders.
Behind every result is a meticulous process:
🧪 Sample preparation
🔍 Microscopic evaluation of cells
💻 Automated analysis with modern hematology analyzers
👩‍🔬 And most importantly, the expertise of medical laboratory specialists
CBC is more than just numbers—it’s the science of translating data into life-saving medical decisions.

A peak into the lab…How to do a BLOOD GROUP TEST.

A blood group test is a lab procedure used to identify a person’s blood type based on the presence or absence of specific antigens on the surface of red blood cells. The main system tested is the ABO system (A, B, AB, or O) and the Rh factor (positive or negative).

How to read result
If there's an agglutination reaction

In Anti-D, it's O positive
In none of them, it's O negative
In Anti-A and Anti-D, it's A positive
In Anti-A only, it's A negative
In Anti-B and Anti-D, it's B positive
In Anti-B only, it's B negative
In Anti-A, Anti-B and Anti-D, it's AB positive
In Anti-A and Anti-B, it's AB negative.

𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐒𝐌𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐘𝐒𝐈𝐒:

𝟏. 𝐌𝐞𝐠𝐚 - 𝐌𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐜𝐲𝐭𝐞:
🔴Large cell responsible for the production of platelets.
🔴Easily recognizable due to its large size and multilobed nucleus.

𝟐. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐲 (𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐲𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐲𝐭𝐞):
🟣Early precursor in the granulocytic series.
🟣Contains primary granules in the cytoplasm.

𝟑. 𝐌𝐲 (𝐌𝐲𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐲𝐭𝐞):
🔵Intermediate precursor in the granulocytic series.
🔵Shows secondary granules and a more condensed nucleus compared to promyelocytes.

𝟒. 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚 (𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐲𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐲𝐭𝐞):
🟠Later stage in granulocytic development.
🟠Kidney-shaped nucleus with visible granules.

𝟓. 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐝:
⚫Immature granulocyte (neutrophil precursor).
⚫Horseshoe-shaped nucleus.

𝟔. 𝐒𝐞𝐠 (𝐒𝐞𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐥):
🟢Mature neutrophil with a multilobed nucleus.
🟢Plays a key role in bacterial defense.

𝟕. 𝐄𝟒 (𝐄𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬):
⚪Various stages of erythroid (red blood cell) precursors, from early to late stages.
⚪Small round cells with a dense nucleus and basophilic cytoplasm.

𝟖. 𝐋𝐲 (𝐋𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐲𝐭𝐞):
🟡Small cell with a round, dense nucleus and scant cytoplasm.
🟡Involved in adaptive immunity.

𝟗. 𝐒𝐂 (𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐥):
🟤Small, less differentiated cell, possibly a hematopoietic stem cell or progenitor.

𝟏𝟎. 𝐌𝐨 (𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐲𝐭𝐞):
🌕Precursor to macrophages and dendritic cells.
🌕Larger cells with kidney-shaped or folded nucleus.

𝟏𝟏. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐦𝐚:
🌑Fully differentiated B-cell responsible for antibody production.
🌑Oval cell with an eccentric nucleus and basophilic cytoplasm.

𝟏𝟐. 𝐄𝐨 (𝐄𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐥):
🌒Granulocyte involved in parasitic infections and allergic responses.
🌒Contains bright eosinophilic (reddish-pink) granules.

𝟏𝟑. 𝐌𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬:
🌖Cell undergoing division, essential for proliferation of hematopoietic cells.

𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔:

🔶Bone marrow analysis is critical for diagnosing hematological disorders like leukemia, anemia, and myelodysplasia.
🔶The smear provides insights into cellularity, lineage proportions, and the presence of abnormal cells.
