Definition:
An umbilical granuloma is a common benign condition in newborns where there is overgrowth of healing tissue (granulation tissue) at the base of the umbilicus after the umbilical cord falls off. It appears as a small, moist, pink or red lump.

Causes:
• Delayed or incomplete epithelialization after cord separation
• Mild infection or irritation at the umbilical stump.
