Dystocia

Case History:
Owner named as Muhammad Aslam mangro resident of village chuttal mangro city Naushahro feroze.
The animal was suffering from delivery pains for 2 days they contacted me for the treatment but as I reached there and checked the animal , The animal was ready to deliver but the cervix was close and animals was applying force to parturate but can't.
Then I gave treatment to the animal I-Prost(Pgf2) and oxytocin and told them to wait for next day.
second day they contacted me and said mucus is coming from the valva and water bag was hagging then I visited again and checked the animal the presentation was normal as known as interior longitudinal presentation but the opening was little bit open to remove the fetus then I gave oxytocin for the contraction of muscles an wait for half an hour and put the rope in the bottle jaws and in the interior legs and push the fetus and delivered successfully then removed palcenta and washed the uterus with normal saline and oxytetracycline for prevention of any injury Allahumdillah both are fine and fit.

Inj: Loxin 15ml
Inj: V sel 15 ml
Inj: oxytetracycline 15 ml

The entire process of mummification takes several weeks, depending on the age of the fetus at the time of death. Once all fluids are completely resorbed, the fetal membranes and uterine wall adhere closely to the fetus and the whole mass becomes brownish black leathery in appearance and odorless.

Abortion

Noninfectious causes of abortion in goats include plant toxins, such as broomweed or locoweed poisoning; dietary deficiencies of copper, selenium, vitamin A, or magnesium; and certain drugs such as estrogen, glucocorticoids, phenothiazine, carbon tetrachloride, or levamisole (in late gestation).

Major infectious causes of abortion in goats are chlamydiosis, toxoplasmosis, leptospirosis, brucellosis, Coxiella burnetii, and listeriosis. Campylobacter causes abortions but is not nearly as important in does as in ewes.

Why C-section in cattle:

An incision is made through the uterus in order to deliver the calf.

C-sections are necessary in cattle when:

A. Vaginal delivery is too difficult
B. If it is not progressing in the expected amount of time
C. Or if it could endanger the life of the cow or the life of her calf.

:

C-Sections are generally performed on:

- Calves that are too large

- Immature heifer more prone to c-section

Other indications include:

☆ Inadequate cervical dilation (not enough relaxation of the cervix muscles)
☆ Abnormal pelvic bone conformation (shape) in the cow
☆ Rupture of the cow's abdominal musculature
☆ Problems with uterine position or uterine function
☆ Abnormalities of the cow's uterus or va**na
☆ Fetal monsters (congenital defects)
☆ Presence of a dead fetus
☆ Uterine inertia, failure of uterine contractions
☆ Prolonged labor
☆ Oversized fetus
☆ Abnormal position or presentation of the fetus
☆ Anatomical abnormality of the mother
☆ Torsion, or twisting of the uterus

1.Preparation of the Surgical site and washing of hand.
2.Apply betadine iodine on the site.
3.A large bold incision is made into the abdomen.
4.Control the bleeding, ligation.
5.Follow a blunt dissection.
6.Cut a facial layer, and two muscle layers.
7.Reach to the peritoneum.
8.Reach to the gravid uterus and exteriorate.
9.Palpate the fetal parts.
10.Make an incision on uterus avoiding injury to a fetus.
11.Hold fetal legs and gently remove it.
12.Avoid intra-peritoneal contamination.
13.Hold the incised uterine edges.
14.Remove the fetal membranes gently only if possible.
15.Remove the uterine fluid.
16.Wash it with the normal saline-3 times, Start suturing the uterus with Utrecht suture pattern.

- Inj.broad spectrum antibiotics 5-10 days
- Supportive therapy
- Daily antispetic solution application (Dressing of wound)
