Cholelithiasis ( Gall bladder stones)
Gallstones are the most common biliary pathology. They are asymptomatic in the majority of cases (>80 per cent)
making cholecystectomy one of the most common operations performed by general surgeons.
Causes: Obesity, high-caloric diets and certain medications (e.g. oral contraceptives) can increase secretion of cholesterol and supersaturate the bile increasing the lithogenicity of bile.
Symptoms: Right upper quadrant pain or epigastric pain,
Dyspepsia, flatulence , food intolerance particularly to fats, nausea
Diagnosis : ultrasound abdomen / HIDA/ LFTs
Treatment : laparascopic / Open cholecystectomy
