TYPES OF INJECTIONS 💉

Intravenous (IV):

Injected into: Directly into a vein.

Action: Rapid onset.

Uses: Emergencies, anesthesia, fluid therapy.

Intramuscular (IM):

Injected into: Deep into a muscle.

Action: Absorbed faster than subcutaneous.

Uses: Vaccines, antibiotics, hormonal therapies.

Subcutaneous (SC or SubQ):

Injected into: The fat layer under the skin.

Action: Slower, sustained absorption.

Uses: Insulin, heparin, some vaccines.

Intraarticular (ID):

Injected into: A joint space.

Uses: Arthritis, inflammation relief.

Intrathecal:

Injected into: The spinal canal (CSF - cerebrospinal fluid).

Action: Bypasses the blood-brain barrier.

Uses: Spinal anesthesia, chemotherapy.

Epidural:

Injected into: The epidural space of the spine.

Uses: During labor, chronic pain management.

Intraosseous:

Injected into: The bone marrow.

Uses: Emergency access when IV is not possible.
