Students of the Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO), currently enrolled in Semester VI, are undertaking their clinical placement in the Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthosis (KAFO) module. The KAFO is a lower limb orthotic device designed to support, align, correct, or prevent deformities affecting the knee, ankle, and foot regions, as well as to improve functional mobility. During this placement, students are engaged in applied clinical practice, where they integrate theoretical knowledge with practical skills in patient assessment, orthotic design, fabrication, and fitting.

The clinical training is being conducted under the supervision of Mr. Farhan, Ms. Lyba, and Mr. Abdul Haseeb, who provide guidance, mentorship, and evaluation to ensure competency development and adherence to professional standards.

Meet our little hero, a baby boy who was treated by Shahkar Khan, a student of KMU IPMR (P&O 8th semester).

He was brought to the P&O Department, Lady Reading Hodpital. His parents complained that his feet were twisted inwards and he was unable to stand properly. After a thorough assessment, it was confirmed that the patient had Club Foot Deformity, also known as CTEV (Congenital Talipus Equino Varus).

He had previously undergone serial casting treatment. An Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) was prescribed for the patient.

After donning the AFO, the patient was able to stand again. The patient and his parents were very satisfied with the treatment provided to him. The patient is now on the road to a fast recovery. Alhamdulillah.
