📢 Training Session on DHIS2 at PHRL, KMU

Provincial Public Health Reference Laboratory (PHRL), Khyber Medical University (KMU), in collaboration with Integrated Diseases Surveillance & Response System (IDSRS) and Health Department-KP, successfully conducted a training session on DHIS2.

During the session, PHRL staff received hands-on training on data entry and reporting using the DHIS2 platform, which plays a crucial role in managing data on notifiable diseases and supporting IDSRS for disease surveillance and response.

This initiative reflects the commitment of PHRL, KMU to strengthening the public health system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ensuring compliance with International Health Regulations (IHR).

KMU’s Advanced Centre for Genomic Technologies Concludes Workshop on Molecular Diagnostics of Rare Genetic Disorders
The Advanced Center for Genomic Technologies (ACGT) at Khyber Medical University (KMU) successfully concluded a three-day workshop titled "Molecular Diagnostics of Rare Human Genetic Disorders: A Systematic Approach," held from February 10 to 12. The workshop served as a vital platform for knowledge-sharing on cutting-edge molecular diagnostic techniques, emphasizing the latest advancements and practical applications in genetic testing.

Public Health Reference Laboratory (PHRL), KMU in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO), has successfully concluded a series of five comprehensive trainings on laboratory biosafety and biosecurity, addressing the growing M. Pox emergency. Over 100 participants from various districts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, representing both government and private sectors, were trained to enhance their capacity in safe and secure laboratory practices.
This initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening public health preparedness and ensuring strong responses to emerging health threats under IHR.

Successful Completion of Biosafety and Biosecurity Training at PHRL, KMU
We are pleased to announce the successful completion of a series of section-wise biosafety and biosecurity trainings for the staff of the Public Health Reference Lab (PHRL), Khyber Medical University, Peshawar. These essential trainings, conducted from September 2 to September 5, 2024, aimed to enhance the preparedness and safety of our staff while handling infectious disease samples. The trainings covered key sections of the lab, ensuring all team members are equipped with the latest biosafety protocols.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to *Director Dr. Yasar Mehmood Yousafzai* for his continued support, and to all participants for their commitment and dedication.

On August 27, 2024, Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry visited to Public Health Reference Laboratory (PHRL) at Khyber Medical University (KMU) for review of M. Pox emergency testing & preparedness. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Dr. Yasar Yousafzai, Director of PHRL, in the presence of Professor Dr. Zia-ul-Haq, Vice Chancellor of KMU.
During the visit, Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry was provided with a comprehensive briefing on the operations and capabilities of the PHRL. Dr. Yasar Yousafzai detailed the laboratory’s extensive preparedness measures, particularly in relation to M. Pox testing and emergency response. The Chief Secretary expressed his deep appreciation for the dedication and efforts demonstrated by the PHRL team in maintaining high standards of public health readiness. Dr. Yasar Yousafzai specifically highlighted the laboratory’s preparedness for M. Pox testing and its crucial role in supporting surveillance efforts. Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry commended the PHRL for its vital contribution to the region's health safety and its proactive approach in addressing emerging health challenges, recognizing it as an essential asset in safeguarding public health.

We are proud to announce the successful completion of a comprehensive training session on the diagnostic dilemma of M.Pox, held at the Public Health Reference Laboratory (PHRL), Khyber Medical University (KMU). This event was organized by PHRL, KMU in collaboration with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the National Institute of Health (NIH). Participants from divisional public health labs and educational institutions were invited to attend the training.
The training encompassed detailed awareness sessions on M.Pox and hands-on workshops on biorisk management and PCR assays, equipping participants with the latest knowledge and skills to combat public health threats effectively.
