Life gives you opportunities to test your strength. This is from a young patient of mine who unfortunately had to undergo an amputation of her dominant arm for a non salvageable cancer. We spoke long and hard about how to retrain her brain and that how this wasn’t the end of the world. She drew me this portrait with her now only and non dominant hand, a testament to human determination. So proud of her. Name hidden for confidentiality reasons.

The Pakistan Knee Hip Society (PKHS) proudly organized an outstanding Basic Science Course & Hands-On Saw Bone Workshop at the historic Najmuddin Auditorium, JPMC Karachi, bringing together orthopaedic surgeons, trainees, and medical students from across the country.

This was not just another course it was an intensive academic and practical experience designed to bridge the gap between theory and surgical application. From orthopaedic biomechanics and fracture healing to principles of joint replacement and fixation strategies, the scientific discussions were matched with highly interactive saw bone workshops where delegates practiced real-world fracture fixation techniques on synthetic models.

As part of promoting the growing SICOT movement in Pakistan, we also organized a friendly cricket match and fun gala evening creating an environment of unity, friendship, networking, and collaboration beyond academics. Because great surgeons are not only built in operating rooms, but also through teamwork, mentorship, and shared experiences.

As Academic secretary of the Pakistan Knee Hip Society, I feel incredibly proud of what our team has achieved together. This is only the beginning of a much larger academic vision for orthopaedics in Pakistan.

Most importantly, heartfelt thanks to all our sponsors and supporters without your trust and contribution, organizing an event of this scale and quality would not have been possible.

Teaching the fundamentals and basics of orthopaedic science to our trainees has always been a passion for me. This extensively designed course in Karachi was attended by around 300 delegates where they got an opportunity to clarify their clouded concepts and interact.
As the course director, I believe we managed to create a good ripple effect in the young minds to facilitate them to plough into the science of orthopaedics even deeper.
