Gandhara University is proud to announce the successful completion of its first-ever batch of the Certificate in Health Professions Education (CHPE) program—a significant step forward in advancing medical education in Pakistan. The CHPE program was designed to equip faculty and healthcare educators with essential skills in curriculum design, assessment, instructional strategies, and educational leadership. Participants from diverse healthcare backgrounds demonstrated strong commitment, critical thinking, and a passion for professional growth throughout the course.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the guest faculty from Khyber Medical University, Prof. Dr. Brekhna Jamil, Asst. Prof. Nowshad Asim, and Asst. Prof. Syed M. Junaid, for their valuable contributions. Special thanks also go to our dedicated in-house faculty, Asst. Prof. Marina Khan, Asst. **The Remarkable Sacrifice of 14-Year-Old Jawad Khan — A New Lease on Life for Several Patients**

**Peshawar, June 6, 2025** — Once again, the healthcare system of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has set a shining example of humanity, compassion, and solidarity. Under the leadership of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Medical Transplant Regulatory Authority (KP-MTRA) and the supervision of Dr. Asif, a life-changing act of service has been successfully carried out — giving new life to multiple patients through the gift of organ donation.

On June 6, 14-year-old Jawad Khan, a student from Mardan, tragically lost his life after being declared brain-dead following a road accident. Accident happened on last Saturday and Jawad was brought to Hayatabad medical complex, Peshawar hospital, later in he was declared as brain death patient. In this critical situation and In an extraordinary act of courage and empathy, his father, Noor Dad Khan, made the brave decision to donate his son’s organs so others may live.

Following this noble consent, specialized medical teams from leading national institutions sprang into action:


- A liver retrieval team from the **Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI), Lahore**

- Kidney retrieval team from the **Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) and CMH/Behria International Hospital Rawalpindi team** and **Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC), Peshawar

- Cornea (eye) retrieval team from the **Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO), HMC, Peshawar**



All organs were successfully retrieved at Hayatabad medical complex and transplanted into deserving patients at IKD, PICO and PKLI — offering them a second chance at life.

Jawad Khan, a student of 9th grade, has now become a symbol of humanity, sacrifice, and hope. His story is a powerful reminder of the life-saving impact of organ donation.

KP-MTRA, along with all participating institutions — *IKD, PICO/HMC, and PKLI** — deeply honor the decision of Jawad's family and salute their strength during an unimaginably difficult time. Their selfless act will continue to inspire others to recognize the profound importance of organ donation in saving lives.

I am writing to draw your kind attention to the critical situation faced by Mr. Ajmal Hussain, son of Mr. Ali Qambar, a final-year MBBS student at Kabir Medical College, Peshawar. He resides in Parachinar, Upper Kurram Agency, and is unable to travel to Peshawar due to roadblocks in the area.

Dr Ajmal’s final-year annual examinations are scheduled to commence on 1st February 2025, and the current roadblock situation has rendered him unable to make the necessary preparations and travel arrangements for this crucial academic milestone. His future as a medical professional depends on his ability to appear in these exams on time.

In light of this urgent matter, I humbly request your kind intervention to ensure his evacuation to Peshawar, either via helicopter or any other feasible means. Your support in coordinating with the concerned authorities will make a significant difference for Mr. Hussain during this challenging time.

اس عظیم خاتون کی عظمت کو سلام!!

مس رفعت 5 دن پہلے صبح 8:30 بجے وفات پا گئیں۔ وہ ایک رضاکارانہ اعضاء عطیہ دہندہ تھیں جنہوں نے اپنی زندگی میں یہ وصیت کی تھی۔ ان کے بھائی بریگیڈیئر زاہد بیگ مرزا، جو نیفرولوجسٹ اور کریٹیکل کیئر اسپیشلسٹ ہیں، نے اپنی فیملی کے ساتھ مل کر ان کی خواہش کو پورا کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا اور سی ایم ایچ/ایم ایچ راولپنڈی اور اے ایف آئی یو کی ٹیموں سے اعضاء نکالنے کی رضامندی کے لیے رابطہ کیا۔ مس رفعت کو وینٹی لیٹر پر رکھا گیا تاکہ ان کا دل موت کے بعد بھی زندہ رہے۔

اے ایف آئی یو، ایم ایچ، سی ایم ایچ، شفا، بحریہ اور سفاری اسپتالوں کی ٹیموں نے مل کر ایک ایسے مریض کا انتخاب کرنے کے لیے کام کیا جسے 18 گھنٹوں کے اندر گردے کی پیوند کاری کی ضرورت ہو، جو اعضاء نکالنے کی ڈیڈ لائن تھی۔ ڈاکٹر فیصل دار کی ٹیم نے جگر نکالنے کے عمل میں حصہ لیا۔ مجموعی طور پر، تین مریضوں کی جان بچائی جا سکتی تھی: ایک جگر اور دو گردے جو 18 گھنٹوں کے اندر میچ کیے گئے اور ٹرانسپلانٹ کیے گئے۔

اے ایف آئی پی امیونولوجی ٹیم نے رات بھر کام کرتے ہوئے 12 گھنٹوں کے اندر مطابقت کے ٹیسٹ مکمل کیے۔ اور دو گردے اور ایک جگر تین مریضوں کو پیوند کیا گیا اور وہ اچھی طرح کام کر رہے ہیں۔

یہ ٹرانسپلانٹ آپریشن ایک انوکھا اور قابلِ ذکر کارنامہ تھا، جو حقیقی صدقہ جاریہ ہے۔ آئیے اس مثبت خبر کو عام کریں تاکہ اعضاء کے عطیات اور پیوند کاری کے اس عظیم مقصد کے بارے میں آگاہی میں اضافہ ہو۔ اس سے زیادہ عظیم کام کیا ہو گا کہ آپ مر کر بھی دوسروں کو زندگی دے جائیں۔

مس رفعت کی بیٹیوں (جو سب ڈاکٹر ہیں) نے اپنی والدہ کو آخری الوداع کہا، جب ان کا دل وینٹی لیٹر پر دھڑک رہا تھا لیکن وہ دماغی طور پر مردہ تھیں۔ اعضاء کے عطیہ کے بعد انہوں نے اپنی پیاری اور عظیم ماں کی میت وصول کی۔ کیا بہادر خاندان ہے، کیا عظیم ماں ہے!
