Gandhara University is proud to announce the successful completion of its first-ever batch of the Certificate in Health Professions Education (CHPE) program—a significant step forward in advancing medical education in Pakistan. The CHPE program was designed to equip faculty and healthcare educators with essential skills in curriculum design, assessment, instructional strategies, and educational leadership. Participants from diverse healthcare backgrounds demonstrated strong commitment, critical thinking, and a passion for professional growth throughout the course.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the guest faculty from Khyber Medical University, Prof. Dr. Brekhna Jamil, Asst. Prof. Nowshad Asim, and Asst. Prof. Syed M. **The Remarkable Sacrifice of 14-Year-Old Jawad Khan — A New Lease on Life for Several Patients**

**Peshawar, June 6, 2025** — Once again, the healthcare system of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has set a shining example of humanity, compassion, and solidarity. Under the leadership of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Medical Transplant Regulatory Authority (KP-MTRA) and the supervision of Dr. Asif, a life-changing act of service has been successfully carried out — giving new life to multiple patients through the gift of organ donation.

On June 6, 14-year-old Jawad Khan, a student from Mardan, tragically lost his life after being declared brain-dead following a road accident. Accident happened on last Saturday and Jawad was brought to Hayatabad medical complex, Peshawar hospital, later in he was declared as brain death patient. In this critical situation and In an extraordinary act of courage and empathy, his father, Noor Dad Khan, made the brave decision to donate his son’s organs so others may live.

Following this noble consent, specialized medical teams from leading national institutions sprang into action:


- A liver retrieval team from the **Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI), Lahore**

- Kidney retrieval team from the **Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) and CMH/Behria International Hospital Rawalpindi team** and **Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC), Peshawar

- Cornea (eye) retrieval team from the **Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO), HMC, Peshawar**



All organs were successfully retrieved at Hayatabad medical complex and transplanted into deserving patients at IKD, PICO and PKLI — offering them a second chance at life.

Jawad Khan, a student of 9th grade, has now become a symbol of humanity, sacrifice, and hope. His story is a powerful reminder of the life-saving impact of organ donation.

KP-MTRA, along with all participating institutions — *IKD, PICO/HMC, and PKLI** — deeply honor the decision of Jawad's family and salute their strength during an unimaginably difficult time. Their selfless act will continue to inspire others to recognize the profound importance of organ donation in saving lives.

Let Jawad’s legacy light the way for a more compassionate and life-affirming society.
