PESHAWAR PGMI INDUCTION
=======================
I am writing to highlight a major problem in CPSP trainee induction this year after being approached by several young doctors of KP.
As we know that in 2024 CPSP session 1300 doctors applied from KP, for induction.
PGMI advertised 1039+ vacant slots in different hospitals throughout KP, leaving 711 doctors without a chance at training. Sadly, these vacancies remained unoccupied due to lack of funding.
Since only 589 slots were filled, with PGMI merging super specialty and MCPS trainees as well. Thus, adding further insult to injury.
This has led to many important specialties such as pathology, anesthesiology, psychiatry etc. to receive minimum trainees despite PGMI’s policy to prioritize and promote these ‘uninhabited’ specialties.
The problem gets worse, many hospitals in the periphery where there is a dire need of these trainees have received no trainees. Zero trainees were inducted in Mardan, Saidu etc.
There is only ONE trainee inducted in Anesthesia in entire KP. Only FIVE trainees inducted in ENT.
PGMI Peshawar conducted three tests, for medicine & allied, surgery & allied and dentistry but surprisingly a consolidated merit list of all three was presented at the end and inductions were processed.
How can three test results of completely different and unrelated exams be merged into one merit list? Which merit will be applied to all of them?
Furthermore, there are trainees who’s FCPS-1 is expiring and this is their last time to get inducted.
Kindly advise:
What is the way forward for these doctors who are facing a catastrophic lack of training positions?
Are they expected to accept policy?
What will become of their future?
