Severe hand injuries in children can become life-changing within moments, especially in machine-related accidents. In such cases, timely intervention and emergency surgical care play a critical role in preserving not just function, but the limb itself.

Recently, a child with a devastating hand injury was managed after being referred in a critical condition. At the initial facility, one finger had already been lost due to the severity of injury, and there was an imminent risk of losing the entire hand.

The child was then urgently managed at RMI, where prompt surgical intervention was performed by Consultant Paediatric Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Muhammad Arsalan. Alhamdulillah, the hand was successfully saved, with only the already-damaged finger being non-salvageable, and the child is now recovering well under regular follow-up care.

Awareness, supervision around machinery, and rapid decision-making can make the difference between permanent disability and functional recovery.

Precision care for complex conditions!

A patient named Liaqat Ali came to us after experiencing fever at night. He had been unwell for five days and did not recover despite initial care elsewhere. He later presented to our Consultant General Medicine, Dr. Humaira Achakzai.

After thorough evaluation, he was diagnosed with GBS (Guillain-Barré Syndrome) a rare neurological condition in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves, leading to muscle weakness, tingling, and in severe cases, temporary paralysis.

In his case, the condition progressed to leg paralysis, and he required assistance from 4–5 people for movement.

He underwent a comprehensive treatment plan over 20–25 days, including a nine-day stay in the ICU. With timely diagnosis, intensive care, and continuous medical support, he gradually improved.

Today, he has recovered well and expresses deep satisfaction with the care and treatment he received at RMI.

The Department of Anaesthesia, at RMI conducted a focused hands-on workshop titled “Visualize and Target: Mastering Ultrasound Guided Truncal Nerve Blocks.”

The session brought clinicians together for practical, evidence-based learning in regional anaesthesia, combining theory with real-time ultrasound-guided techniques to strengthen perioperative pain management and improve patient outcomes.

Participants gained hands-on experience in systematic approaches to ultrasound-guided truncal nerve blocks, commonly used regional anaesthesia techniques, and the integration of these blocks into multimodal analgesia for enhanced clinical effectiveness.
